The mortal remains of Anjan Dutta were consigned to flames on Friday a day after the APCC president died of cardiac arrest in New Delhi. After last respect to the lifeless former minister in Guwahati and Sivasagar, Dutta’s body was taken to Gaurisagar where he was cremated with full state honour in the afternoon. Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and forest minister Pramila Rani Brahma, MP Ripun Bora were prominent among those who were present at the cremation ground. Before that thousands of bereaved Congress men received Dutta’s body at the Jorhat Airport in the morning and was taken to Sivasagar to facilitate his fans to pay their last respect in Sivasagar town and his birth place Gayan gaon.
Dutta died of cardiac ailment on Thursday morning at the All India Institute of Medical Science a couple of weeks after he was rushed to it. The party in rank and file have condoled his death and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
A long march to Dispur by the agitating special police officers is believed to have forced the authorities to cut short the journey of two Guwahati-bound passenger trains on Sunday. The Lumding-Alipurduar train via Guwahati will cut short its journey at Hojai. On the other hand, the Lumding-Guwahati train has refused to proceed beyond Lanka.According to allegations, the agitating police officers had booked many compartments of the two Guwahati bound trains on Sunday. The SPOs were waiting to board on the trains to arrive in Guwahati to register their protest alleging non receipt of due treatment from the governnment.

Terror tentacle spreading in the north eastern region when suspected NSCN(K) backed by other insurgent outfits of the region unleashed a reign of terror by tagetting security forces in Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday.A huge group of around 50 gunmen opened fire at an Assam Rifles camp in Lazu area in Tirap district early in the morning forcing the army personnel to retaliate. The insurgents fled under cover of darkness. There is no report of any casualty.Later police recovered over 70 empty cartridges of AK-47 rifle along with several bombs.The gun firing took place four days after 18 army personnel were killed at an ambush by NSCN-K in in Manipur's Chandel district.
