In a rare dose of good news, the Centre has announced a slew of measures to improve the railway network in the north eastern region.
A number of new trains are coming up to boost railway connectivity in the region. These include two full Satabdi trains from Tinsukia to Guwahati and from Naharlagun to Guwahati.
According to information, a fully AC 3-tier train is also set to start from Guwahati to Bangalore via Kolkata. Named as Hamsafar, the new train is expected to come up within the next couple of weeks.
In yet another move that fetches new hopes for Tripura, the Railway ministry has announced a new train from Agartala to Kolkata. But it would take time.
A process is in progress to double railway line and it will tremendously boost the infrastructure in this region.
Other initiative include the steps to upgrade the Guwahati and Agyathuri railway stations to world class stations. These would be done on Public Private Participation (PPP) mode.
Moreover, the Guwahati station will be upgraded and an executive lounge with airport type facilities will be constructed very soon. Same facility would be available in Lumding and Tinsukia.
A Second Rail Bridge at Saraighat near Guwahati is also in the pipeline. Apart from these, construction is set to begin for a new Railway Line from Salona to Khumtai, from Sibsagar to Jorhat and from Tezpur to Silghat. The Railways is also considering setting up of a bottled drinking water plant under the RailNeer brand at Jagiroad in Assam for which land is being surveyed for exact location.
