Death threat to Zubeen!

Zubeen Garg received death threat in social media when the most popular singer was performing in Dibrugarh on Friday.

A Facebook status warning that the singer would be shot dead from a point blank range went viral in the evening forcing the district authority to step up security in the function were the most popular singer was performing.

The threat was posted in the facebook by some Kai Khaplang alias Tultul Baglary who threatened to shot dead the dinger from.10 metre away from him..

He received the death threat hardly a week after he stepped down from a stage in Guwahati for disallowing to perform in Hindi.

Pobitora under surging waters

The overall flood scene in Assam refuses to improve on Tuesday with incessant rains that lashed the state for the last couple of days. Part of the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Morigaon has come under the surging waters forcing many birds and animals to shift their places. More than 1.5 lakh people have been reeling under the current flood wave in Morigaon, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts where relief and rescue operations are in progress. The situation threatens to take more grim turn if the rains refuse to relent.

Gohain takes oath as Union minister

Rajen Gohain took oath as Union minister when Prime Minister Narendra Modi expanded his council of ministers inducting the Nagaon MP along with 18 others on Tuesday. President Pranab Mukherjee administered the senior BJP leader from Assam the oath of office and secrecy at a function at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in the morning in presence of Modi along with his ministerial colleagues. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal along with a few top state BJP leaders were present in the function. Gohain, the three fourth time MP from Nagaon got the invitation to take oath two days ago when he was in his home district.

Flood woes hit 3 districts

Flood waters start taking a grim turn in Assam on Monday following heavy downpour during the last couple of days in the catchment areas in Arunachal Pradesh. The situation is set to take more grim turn if the rains that lash the entire state refuse to relent during the next couple of days. Dhaka tragedy keeps border on alert

The recent reign of terror in Dhaka has forced the north eastern states to remain on alert along the Indo-Bangladesh border. A round the clock vigil is in place along the border to check the intrusion of miscreants in the face of a crackdown on the soil of Bangladesh. AJYCP stages strike, opposes auction move

Hundreds of AJYCP activists in Sivasagar district launched day long strike in protest against the move to auction 12 oil fields. The agitating activists thronged the oil fields where they warned the Narendra Modi government at the Centre not to proceed with the deal. On Tuesday, they would block the National Highway No 37 to oppose the move. On Wednesday, AJYCP will stage rail blockade asking the Centre to roll back the decision by July 8. Notably, the Centre is preparing to auction dozens of oil fields to the private parties which include 12 from Assam.

Ripun Bora interim PCC president

Senior Congress leader Ripun Bora has assumed charge as Assam Pradesh Congress Committee’s interim president a couple of weeks after president Anjan Dutta died of illness in New Delhi.   Party high command in Delhi appointed Bora as interim president which is believed to be a chance for the Rajya Sabha MP to prove his organizational skill. “If the things within the poll-hit party start improving the high command is contemplating to confirm his appointment as PCC president. Before the move, the high command got positive feedback from former chief minister Tarun Gogoi who is said to be closed to the former minister,” AICC sources said.      

AJYCP strike on Monday

The move to auction 12 oil fields in Assam runs into a hail of state-wide protests. Announcing a slew of protest, the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad threatens to intensify protest if the Centre refuses to restraint by July 8. Talking to Assam Times, AJYCP leaders in Sivasagar said they are holding a 12-hour strike at the oil field in Sivasagar district on Monday. On Tuesday, the influential organization will further block the national Highway No 37 in protest against the controversial move of the Modi Government. On July 8, they would block the rails opposing the move.
