Four persons died when a truck full of logs carrying them slipped into a ditch in Kamrup district bordering Meghalaya on Tuesday.
The shocking accident took place at Hahim in Boko where the logs fell on the four persons assoonas the truck met with the mishap. All of them died on the spot.
According to the local residents, the truck which was full of smuggled logs fell into the drain after the driver lost control over it.
Local residents and police rushed to the spot and took Sn hour to extricate the bodies. Police have registered a case to investigate it.
Assam is set to lose a huge amount of Rs 1000 crore as revenue if chief minister Tarun Gogoi is to be believed. ULFA’s anti-talk faction threatens to target NHPC if it resumes the mega dam construction at Gerukamukh. In a statement, the militant outfit’s vice president Paresh Asom said that they would not allow anybody to build mega dams in future.According to ULFA-I, the Gerukamukh project would not help Assam and instead it would have adverse impact in the downstream areas. Dispur has struck a deal with National Council of Science Museums to develop a science city in the outskirt of Guwahati. Sources told Assam Times that the government would invest Rs 110 crore for the project at Sonapur. The pact was signed between Assam government and National Council of Science Museums in presence of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday. The government would bear the recurring expenditure and the estimated average annual expenditure would be around Rs 7 crore. The entire project requires a plot of 250 bighas to be operated and maintained by a registered society while National Council of Science Museums will have an ex-officio member of the society.
Nagaland Governor Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya took over as Assam governor on Friday a day after JB Patnaik left the state ending five years tenure. Gauhati High Court chief justice administered Acharya the oath of office and secrecy at a brief function at the Raj Bhawan in the morning. A hardcore ULFA (I) militant surrendered before police in Dibrugarh district with sophisticated arms and ammunition on Friday. Identified as ULFA(I) Raktim Moran, the ULFA-I lance corporal is a resident of Mudai Gaon in the same district who deposited one AK-81 rifle, one Chinese grenade, three magazines and 79 rounds of ammunition. Moran joined the outfit three years ago before undergoing arms training in Myanmar. Paresh Baruah is believed to have sent him last month to carry out sabotage work.
