Four killed in Boko truck mishap

Four persons died when a truck full of logs carrying them slipped into a ditch in Kamrup district bordering Meghalaya on Tuesday.

The shocking accident took place at Hahim in Boko where the logs fell on the four persons as soon as the truck met with the mishap. All of them died on the spot.

According to the local residents, the truck which was full of smuggled logs fell into the drain after the driver lost control over it.

Local residents and police rushed to the spot and  took Sn hour to extricate the bodies. Police have registered a case to investigate it.

The UNICEF is holding a brainstorming consultation in Guwahati on Monday to focus child rights to participate in media and communication apart from the decision making process and content development. The Assam based UNICEF Chief officer Tushar Rane opened the consultation outlining the role of the global agency in the innovation and implementation of sanitation and hygiene awareness in the schools. The state exchequer bore a Rs 34,44,353 expenditure in the name of chief minister Tarun Gogoi’s foreign visit since 2001. Amid intense debate, attacks and counter attack between ruling and the Opposition, the Assam assembly begins its winter session on Monday.The government is taking full advantage of the divided Opposition on several issues. A cabinet meeting on Sunday cleared the proposal for police commissionerate in Guwahati. Sources told Assam Times that the presided over by chief minister Tarun Gogoi at his Koinadhara residence in the evening, the meeting decided to introduce the system in Guwahati from January next year.All police stations and outposts in the Kamrup metro would come under the police commissioner who would be picked up from among an IGP level officer.

Despite repeated suggestions to halt the mega dam work by north east dam experts, NHPC and the Centre have categorically allayed the fear of downstream disaster of the controversial dam at Gerukamukh.
