Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit felicitated Anshu Jamsenpa, who has climbed to the peak of Mount Everest twice in five days and making a world record by her feat, at a function held at Raj Bhavan on Friday.

Hailing the feat of the mountaineer, Purohit said, “The nation in general and Northeast in particular is proud of the enviable record of Anshu Jamsenpa who unfurled the Tricolour at the peak of Mount Everest. Climbing the Mount Everest, the world’s tallest peak is indeed an extraordinary endeavour, climbing it twice in five days is something only the great can do. My commendation to the grit and dedication of Anshu Jamsenpa on becoming the first woman to scale the peak for fourth time. Not only Arunachal Pradesh, the country as a whole is proud of Anshu Jamsenpa”.

He also said that Anshu is a source of motivation to other mountaineers who can emulate her achievement to scale any height in life. She will meet the press persons at Guwahati Press Club on Saturday morning at 11 am.

Three arrested in Junu Sarma murder case

  GUWAHATI: The Kamrup Police have arrested three persons in connection with the murder of senior State Bank India (SBI) official Junu Sarma.Police in a pre-dawn raid on Sunday arrested the three persons–Putul Ali alias Saddam Hussain, Sunil Kumar Mishra and Pranab Kalita from different places.While Putul alias Saddam is a loan recovery agent, Mishra is an official of SBI’s Dadara branch. Lady bank manager shot dead by miscreants

GUWAHATI: Asst Manager of SBI Dadara Branch Junu Sarma was shot dead from point blank range by two armed motor cycle borne miscreants at Agiathori under Amingaon PS in Kamrup on Tuesday evening. When the her car slowed down at Agiathori area, two man on a motorbike wearing helmets broke the window pane of the car and shot her from close range,police said.Her driver rushed her to NH Narayana hospital and later referred to GMCH where she was declared brought dead.The driver has been detained for questioning, police said adding that the cause of the attack is yet to be ascertained.

Musician Kishor Giri passes away

Guwahati: Lone protester in the streets of Guwahati against all evils and an acclaimed musician Kishor Giri passes away this morning (7 October 2018). Giri, who lived in Kharghuli hill of the city with his family, was found dead at around 9.30 am. His daughters, who live in Bangalore, are arriving in the city by the evening. His cremation will take place tomorrow. Guwahati: One of Charlie Chaplin's most celebrated works, The Gold Rush will be screened at Guwahati Press Club on Friday (28 September, starting at 5 pm).
