Disrupting leopard killed, consumed in Namrup

NAMRUP:A section of people in a remote hamlet in Namrup killed a leopard hours after it killed a lady and hurt 3 others in a series of attack on Friday morning. Not only that after lynching, the villagers cut the animal into pieces in full view of the forest officials. Then they  claimed to have consumed it triggering widespread anger among the animal lovers.

These disturbing incidents took place in Majkopihuwa goan and Asomiya Gaon where the local villagers in large number chased the leopard after it killed Maikon Gogoi and injuring three others in s series of attacks in the morning.

The animal then was beaten up to death. A section of them cut it into pieces to vanished. Some of them later claimed to have consumer it which needs to be probed.

The reason why the leopard attacked people is not mentioned. A leopard won't just go on an attack spree. I would assume that these would have been either chance encounters or the leopard retaliating when provoked

Union home minister Rajnath Singh would be on a stock taking to the flood hit areas of Goalpara and Kamrup district along with South Garo hills in Meghalaya on October 1.The flood waters in these two districts continue to recede following the halt of rains during the last couple of days. Singh has already sent Kiren Rijiju who wrapped up his aerial survey on Saturday afternoon.The Centre had already provided some immediate relief in the form of ex gratia to the next of kin of those who have died in the floods. The next of kin of every person who died in the floods would get Rs 3.5 lakh each. 
Union minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju gives hint of sufficient fund for to help the state get rid of flood fury and the aftermath. After his survey in Goalpara on Saturday, Rijiju told reporters that the Centre has no dearth of funds and support to tackle the flood menace. “Let me assure that there will be no dearth of central funds and support to tackle the situation,” Rijiju told reporters in Goalpara. Accompanied by Guwahati MP Bijoya Chakravarty, the Union minister flew over Goalpara, Dhubri and Kamrup districts along with North Garo Hills and South Garo Hills districts of Meghalaya.
The arrest of Jaiklong Brahma has reached the court with Gauhati High Court issuing notices to the Centre, State Government, District Magistrate, Kokrajhar, and Superintendent of Police questioning the legality and validity of the TV journalist’s arrest under the National Security Act (NSA).In an order, the court has asked for the reply within October 15.Advocates Bijon Mahajan and Arshad Choudhury appeared for the Kokrajhar-based journalist who was arrested on September 3 for allegedly hobnobbing with NDFB(S) and feeding the outfit with information.
Finally Narendra Modi has announced compensation for the flood victims. Apart from condoling the loss of lives in the flood fury, the prime minister sanctioned ex-gratia relief of Rs.2 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased.Before leaving for US, the prime minister has sanctioned an ex-gratia of Rs.2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs.50,000 each to the seriously injured persons from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund.
The Centre is for Rs 1,000 crore fund to help Assam tide over the flood fury and to manage the post flood situation. This was what Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal said a day after Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi demanded. Talking to reporters in Guwahati on Friday, the Union minister of state for sports the Centre has no dearth of fund for flood relief and to build damaged infrastructure. He said, "we have asked the state government for a report on the loss of human lives, livestock, houses and crops. We have full faith in Tarun Gogoi that he will send a detailed report to the Centre,". "We are not indulging in politics. It is not the time for that. This is the time to help," Sonowal said.
Chief minister Tarun Gogoi made an aerial survey in Goalpara and Kamrup(rural) district on Friday. But he could not land in the flood relief camps because of the inclement weather.He had to wrap up his survey within 45 minutes. The chief minister has asked the authorities to ensure speedy relief and rescue operation in the worst-hit Goalpara and Kamrup(rural) district.The recurrence of incessant rains is likely to worsen the flood waters on  Friday afternoon.  
The flood toll has gone up to 38 with the recovery of two more bodies on Friday twelve hours after four bodies were recovered in Goalpara.Both the bodies were fished out on Friday one each in Goalpara and Kamrup(rural). NDRF and SDRF have recovered two more bodies in Krishnai and Kukurkata areas of the worst-hit Goalpara district. This is apart from the recovery of one body each from Tinsukia district and Guwahati which falls in Kamrup Metro district.Official sources confirmed that 36 people lost their lives and that the toll is likely to go up.
