NAMRUP:A section of people in a remote hamlet in Namrup killed a leopard hours after it killed a lady and hurt 3 others in a series of attack on Friday morning. Not only that after lynching, the villagers cut the animal into pieces in full view of the forest officials. Then they claimed to have consumed it triggering widespread anger among the animal lovers.
These disturbing incidents took place in Majkopihuwa goan and Asomiya Gaon where the local villagers in large number chased the leopard after it killed Maikon Gogoi and injuring three others in s series of attacks in the morning.
The animal then was beaten up to death. A section of them cut it into pieces to vanished. Some of them later claimed to have consumer it which needs to be probed.

The reason why the leopard attacked people is not mentioned. A leopard won't just go on an attack spree. I would assume that these would have been either chance encounters or the leopard retaliating when provoked

The Centre will help Assam tide over the flood fury. Rajnath Singh announced Rs 286 crore central share of disaster relief to the state after the Union home minister made an aerial survey on the worst-hit Goalpara and Kamrup (rural) districts on Wednesday.Singh promised more funds once a detailed assessment of the extent of damage was done. Singh announced it after he met chief minister Tarun Gogoi.Earlier, he made his day-long trip to the region during which he made aerial survey of flood-hit districts of Assam and adjoining Garo Hills region of Meghalaya.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi has congratulated five-time world champion boxer M C Mary Kom for clinching the gold medal in the ongoing 17th Asian Games at Incheon in South Korea. The flood toll has gone up by 43 with the report of one more death on Tuesday. Over six lakh people are still trapped in the calamity.Rescue team in Goalpara on Tuesday fished out yet another body taking the toll in the worst-hit district by 20. This is apart from 16 deaths in Kamrup Rural and 6 in Kamrup Metro and one in Dhubri.Altogether 165 relief camps have been operating in the affected districts where over 1.5 lakh people are staying at this moment.In Goalpara, around 70,000 people are staying at relief camps, while almost 60,000 people are living in such places in Nagaon. But the Brahmaputra is still flowing above the danger mark at Nimatighat in Jorhat district.
