NAMRUP:A section of people in a remote hamlet in Namrup killed a leopard hours after it killed a lady and hurt 3 others in a series of attack on Friday morning. Not only that after lynching, the villagers cut the animal into pieces in full view of the forest officials. Then they claimed to have consumed it triggering widespread anger among the animal lovers.
These disturbing incidents took place in Majkopihuwa goan and Asomiya Gaon where the local villagers in large number chased the leopard after it killed Maikon Gogoi and injuring three others in s series of attacks in the morning.
The animal then was beaten up to death. A section of them cut it into pieces to vanished. Some of them later claimed to have consumer it which needs to be probed.

The reason why the leopard attacked people is not mentioned. A leopard won't just go on an attack spree. I would assume that these would have been either chance encounters or the leopard retaliating when provoked
Chief minister Tarun Gogoi made an aerial survey in Goalpara and Kamrup(rural) district on Friday. But he could not land in the flood relief camps because of the inclement weather.He had to wrap up his survey within 45 minutes. The flood toll has gone up to 38 with the recovery of two more bodies on Friday twelve hours after four bodies were recovered in Goalpara.Both the bodies were fished out on Friday one each in Goalpara and Kamrup(rural). NDRF and SDRF have recovered two more bodies in Krishnai and Kukurkata areas of the worst-hit Goalpara district. This is apart from the recovery of one body each from Tinsukia district and Guwahati which falls in Kamrup Metro district.Official sources confirmed that 36 people lost their lives and that the toll is likely to go up.

There is sign of marginal let-up in the overall flood scene on Friday. The flood waters start receding trend in the worst hit areas of Goalpara and Kamrup Districts. The waterlevels of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries across the state are also receding marginally.In a bid to speed up dispatch relief materials, the North East Frontier Railway is running two special trains till September 30 between New Bongaigaon - Goalpara and Guwahati to Chayygaon.The administration has set up 88 temporary relief camps in Goalpara District and 54 in Kamrup District to accommodate over 2 lakh people. But the road communication between Guwahati and Goalpara, however, remains cut off.
Chief minister Tarun Gogoi has sought Rs 1,000 crore from the Centre to tide over the grim flood situation where at least 40 people lost their lives during the last 5 days. The Centre is not looking after Assam and J&K differently. This was what Union minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju told reporters in Lakhimpur on Thursday.Hours after chief minister alleged that the Centre took up Assam and J&K flood differently, Rijiju who hails from Arunachal Pradesh said that Centre is helping the state get out of the blues.He further said that the Assam government has experience of handling the situation from its past experience and that flood is new problem in J&K where the government has hardly any experience.

S HASAN, NAZIRA:Nazira police have got a major breakthrough in the recent sensational Mintu Saikia murder case and arrested nabbed two persons in this connection. Identified as Mohan Satnami and Gonesh Pator, the duo are being charged with killing Mintu after hiring his vehicle on September 19. The bullet ridden body was recovered at a dustbin in Dimapur while his friend Munu Ali was found at a hospital.Lead by SDPO Ashif Ahmed, the police team arrested Muhon Satnami from Borpathar and Gonesh Pator from Sarupathar of Golaghat district within three days of the incident.
