Disrupting leopard killed, consumed in Namrup

NAMRUP:A section of people in a remote hamlet in Namrup killed a leopard hours after it killed a lady and hurt 3 others in a series of attack on Friday morning. Not only that after lynching, the villagers cut the animal into pieces in full view of the forest officials. Then they  claimed to have consumed it triggering widespread anger among the animal lovers.

These disturbing incidents took place in Majkopihuwa goan and Asomiya Gaon where the local villagers in large number chased the leopard after it killed Maikon Gogoi and injuring three others in s series of attacks in the morning.

The animal then was beaten up to death. A section of them cut it into pieces to vanished. Some of them later claimed to have consumer it which needs to be probed.

The reason why the leopard attacked people is not mentioned. A leopard won't just go on an attack spree. I would assume that these would have been either chance encounters or the leopard retaliating when provoked

Former director general of police Shankar Baruah committed suicide on Wednesday. Baruah came home and within half an hour he went to the terrace and shot himself with his pistol revolver. Finally, the Assam government has started decentralizing the police force. The Superintendents are free to transfer inspectors or lower-ranked officials without any permission from the DGP.According to official sources, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday has given final seal of approval. Now the SPs are competent to transfer police officials in the rank of Inspector and below within their district limits.Earlier, the DGP's prior approval was required before transfer of such officials. The DGP's approval has to be obtained in case any such officers having not completed two years in their place of posting. 
A local court in Guwahati remanded Anjali Das Thakuria to CBI custody for 24 hours on Tuesday a day after the country's premier investigation agency arrested assistant with the regional passport office on bribery charges.  Before that, the CBI produced her before the magistrate who denied her bail and remanded her to CBI custody till Wednesday. She would be produced before the court again on Wednesday before sending her to jail.CBI sleuths arrested the personal assistant of the regional passport officer from her chamber on Monday when she accepted Rs 2000 from an applicant.

The railway minister on Tuesday confirmed that the Bogibeel project would be completed by 2016.Gowda announced a huge Rs 54,000 crore package to uplift the region’s railway connectivity. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Gowda said that Assam alone would get Rs 5,400 crore to improve and expand railway network. After reviewing the railway projects, he said that Assam will get seven new trains very soon.              
An upbeat AIUDF again slammed Congress saying that the ruling party had to heavy price of rampant corruption and misgovernance in the assembly polls.Talking to reporters after the formal announcement of the by poll results in Jamunamukh, AIUDF president Badaruddin Ajmal said that more murky days await the ruling party. “It the price of rampant corruption and misgovernance of the Tarun Gogoi government,” said Ajmal.  Notably, his party retained Jamunamukh while got second position in Silchar and Lakhipur.
