Kokrajhar: Security forces are fanning in the nook and corner of BTAD areas in search of the rebels who keep mongering trouble at regular interval in some pockets. The stepped up counter operation has been paying huge dividends during the last couple of months.
This was what Inspector general of police(IGP) Anurag Agarwal said in Kokrajhar as he was addressing the media in the sidelines of the 32nd Raising Day of the 7th Assam Police Battalion at Choraikola in Kokrajhar on Wednesday. He said the state police force has stepped up operations against the rebel outfits and miscreant elements and that some NDFB-S rebels died while many others surrendered.
According to the IG, some active rebels have come overground after years of camping at the deep jungles in the region. Agarwal observed that policemen have been investigating the two sensational incidents of murder at Baksa and Kokrajhar districts where some leads have surfaced. Abdul Karim of Panbari in Kokrajhar and Banajit Haloi of Baksa were murdered by unknown miscreants few days back.
“The miscreants would be nabbed in a short span of time,” Agarwal said. A multi cultural demonstration was also organized highlighting different communities on the occasion.
