BIG PUJA AWARDS Presented
Guwahati's favourite FM station, BIG 92.7 FM has announced the winners of this year's edition of the BIG Puja Awards, which was instituted by FM channel since last year in 2007. This year's edition of the BIG Puja Awards had two (2) categories namely:BIG Public Choice Award & BIG Jury Award.
The jury, which consisted of Mr Pulak Banerjee, Mrs Anuradha Sarma Pujari & Ms Nishita Goswami nominated 8 Puja Pandals based on their criteria. Out of these 8 nominated Pujas, listeners were asked to vote in for their favourite Puja Pandal by SMS for the BIG Public Choice Award. Over and above the 8 nominated Pandals, listeners were also asked to vote for their favourite Puja Pandal, if they found one worth voting for.For the BIG Jury Award, the jury members along with the BIG Team personally visited all the nominated Puja Pandals on Ashtami. Based on the standard criteria, special emphasis was also given to the traditional style and environmental friendliness approach of the Pandals. The winners in the two categories are:BIG Public Choice Award-Nayantara Club Puja Samity, Kumarpara, BIG Jury Award- Fancy Bazar Puja Samity, Fancy Bazar.
The purpose of this initiative was two-fold firstly to give the people of Guwahati an opportunity to also express their views about the Puja celebrations in Guwahati and the best Puja Pandal in the city according to them & to recognize the efforts of the various Puja Pandals in organizing and presenting a spectacular show and encourage them to do better, on the lines of similar contests held in other metropolitan cities of the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Swapan Sinha, Station Head of BIG 92.7 FM, Guwahati said that "We were overwhelmed with the response that we received from our listeners and the people of Guwahati in this initiative. Arunachal citizens Right (ACR) have raised concern about the rapid pace at which the state government has signed Memoranda of Agreement (MoAs) with hydro-power companies in recent times. As per an RTI reply to the Arunachal Citizens’ Rights (ACR) the state government has signed MoAs for 103 hydropower projects for a total of 30, 000 MW since February 2006. 31 of these MoUs/MoAs were signed in just five months before the Lok Sabha polls, each accompanied by huge monetary advances. Seven people killed and more than 50 injured, eight of them in critical condition, when a powerful bomb exploded next to Maligaon city bus stand in Maligoan Chariali area in Guwahati on Monday afternoon. Having suffered the barbs of being erroneously described as settlers and foreigners, the Indian Gorkhas have long been demanding the creation of a state for Gorkhas in India. Such a state would reassert their identity as Indians and clear all misconceptions about their origins and nationality. Residents of India since pre-Mughal times and participants in large numbers in the Freedom Struggle, the Gorkhas of India feel that their being misconstrued as citizens of another country has denied them a fuller role in Indian national life.
