Rape&murder trigger statewide anger

NAGAON:Shock and anger grip Assam a day after three miscreants gangraped a minor girl to be burnt alive later in Nagaon district forcing the people in many places to hit the streets demanding capital punishment of the perpetrators.

The Nagaon police who have caught two miscreants namely Rahul and Imdadul hours after the incident are producing them before the CJM court on Saturday seeking the duo in their custody.

Zakir Hussain, the main culprit has been absconding and operations are going on to nab him. According to sources, he would be caught at any moment from now in this connection.

Various organizations and individuals across the state are set to hit the streets on Saturday demanding capital punishment of the perpetrators.

The gruesome incident took place in Bordua where the miscreants in Dhaniabheti gaon gangraped the minor girl inside her home in the absence of her parents and later set her on fire by pouring kerosene and fled.

Later local residents came to her rescue and rushed her to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital where she was declared brought dead.
The police have caught two of the miscreants.

A good number of Koch Rajbanshi people representing the various bodies of the communities are staging a 72 hour long demonstration from Wednesday in front of the Jantarmantar, New Delhi demanding a separate Kamatapur state. Led by the All Koch Rajbanshi Students Union President Atul Rai and general secretary Bireswar Saikia, the strike will continue for 72 hours. They are stick to the stand saying they will not halt it if the Government fails further. They alleged that before the election, the ruling clique promised everything but forget as soon as they come to power.

ULFA-I still firm on demand

The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-I) announced it preparedness to continue the struggle for an independent Assam with an appeal to the people to take an united stand.

In a statement issued by ULFA-I on Monday, chairman Dr Abhijit Asom said that the need of the hour to discourage the anti-Assam circle.

The rebel outfit made it clear that Assam is never safe at the hands of those who are loyal to the Delhitis.
