Sangeeta Barooah Pisharoty, a veteran journalist, will receive the Parag Kumar Das Journalism Award 2023. The award includes a cash prize of Rs 25,000, a citation, and a memento. The award ceremony will take place on May 17.

Sangeeta Barooah Pisharoty currently serves as the National Affairs Editor for the digital news publication 'The Wire.'

The Parag Kumar Das Journalism Award was established to honor the courageous journalist Parag Kumar Das, who lost his life while fighting for the truth. The award recognizes and encourages journalists who tirelessly uncover the truth and bring it to the public.

Flash flood have started wreaking havoc in Goalpara district displacing thousands of people during the last couple of days. The major rivers in the district have been overflowing following the heavy downpour in Meghalaya and the surging waters have inundated a huge area in the lower Assam district where thousands of people in several villages have been affected. The situation is expected to take a grim turn if the rains refuse to halt.
The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) is all set to hit the streets again if the Centre fails to scrap the move for Indian citizenship to the Hindu Bangladeshi immigrants. The state’s influential student organization, in a statement made it plain and simple that never it would allow the immigrants who came to Assam after March 24, 1971 to remain in the state. AASU has threatened to launch a statewide massive movement to detect and deport the immigrants in question.    According to AASU, the Centre’s move is quite contrary to the Assam Accord which is not acceptable under any circumstance.

Many people sustained injury when security forces sprang upon a group of KMSS activists in Guwahati who opposed the process to auction a dozen of oil fields in Assam on Saturday.
