Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp Empowers Young Innovators at NEHU

NEHU Campus, 20th April, 2023 - The National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB), Department of Science and Technology (DST), GoI, has kicked off the Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp (EAC) at the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) campus. The three-day program, organized by the Department of Biomedical Engineering, NEHU and sponsored by the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI), Ahmedabad, aims to equip over 75 students from diverse backgrounds with the knowledge and skills required for entrepreneurship.

Esteemed experts from both industry and academia have gathered to interact with the participants, shedding light on crucial topics such as entrepreneurship, start-ups, innovation, marketing ideas, and generating resources for product commercialization. This EAC marks the second camp organized after the successful event held in March 2023.

The inauguration of the program took place on 20th April, 2023, with Professor Iftekhar Hussain, Dean of the School of Technology at NEHU, serving as the Chief Guest. The Guest of Honor, Dr. Nilesh Trivedi, Assistant Director of MSME, Tura, along with Dr. P. Khongji, Head of BSSS, NEHU, Dr. Sudip Paul, Teacher-Incharge of the BME Department, NEHU, and Dr. Dinesh Bhatia and Dr. Punit Gautam, Course Coordinators, were also present at the opening ceremony.

In his welcome speech, Dr. D. Bhatia, Course Coordinator, outlined the objectives of the awareness camp, emphasizing the long-term benefits it would bring to society. He highlighted the abundant opportunities and challenges that young entrepreneurs face, particularly in India, now the world's most populous country, surpassing China. Dr. Bhatia expressed sincere gratitude to both the Central and State governments for their whole-hearted support in organizing such camps in the region.

Dr. Nilesh Trivedi shed light on the role of MSME and the Government of India in promoting entrepreneurship and innovation, while also highlighting the various funding opportunities available to support such initiatives. Dr. P. Khongji expressed his satisfaction with the Entrepreneurship Camp and commended the role of his department in initiating this venture.

Professor Hussain, the Chief Guest, underscored the transformative power of start-ups and entrepreneurs in shaping the country's future. He advocated for the establishment of data centers and suitable market opportunities in the North-East region, enabling young individuals to unlock their potential. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of staying updated with recent technological trends, highlighting the pivotal role that courses like the EAC play in connecting people with rapid developments.

Dr. S. Paul highlighted the role of technology in meeting industry needs and sustaining technological advancements.

Concluding the ceremony, Dr. Punit Gautam extended a vote of thanks to all the university and external stakeholders involved in organizing the event. He expressed appreciation for the course participants and resource persons who came together for this enlightening awareness camp.

The EAC at NEHU promises to empower aspiring entrepreneurs, equipping them with the necessary knowledge and tools to thrive in the dynamic world of start-ups and innovation.

Social activist held for proving AASU-Bajrang dal nexus

Guwahati storm toll goes up to 3

The death toll in the huge storm that lashed Guwahati and its adjacent areas on Sunday has gone up to three with the death of two more people.  Two people died when they were fishing at a waterbody in the Maligaon area of the city. Vishwakarma puja festivity

Vishwakarma puja festivity grips Assam on Sunday across the state where the god of construction is being worshipped with much religious fervour. Factories and industries, technical institutes and laboratories wore a festive look with the workers and employees offered puja to the god.  Prabajan Virodhi Manch, a social organization against the immigration issue, has raised serious concern over the Centre’s decision to grant citizenship to the Chakma and Hajong refugees in Arunachal Pradesh. The police probing the public comment against Jiten Dutta  have withdrawn the case on Saturday after the former ULFA rebel personally appeared before them with a note of clarification. Assam tables historic bill

In a historic move, the Assam government on Friday moved s bill in the legislative assembly to ensure proper care for the elders.  Moving the Bill on the floor senior minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the bill if turned into an Act would make it mandatory for all government employees to ensure proper care for their parents.  “The government would not tolerate negligence to the parents of an employees. A govt employee will have to face action “ said Sarma.  Assam is the first state to have moved such bill aiming at enduring care for the elders.

Crop insurance scheme in the pipeline

Crop Cutting Experiments (CCEs) under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), which were delayed due to floods in many parts of the State, are expected to start shortly and the government has also started work to implement PMFBY during the forthcoming Rabi season.  CCEs were delayed as most of the crop fields were under floodwater. The Dibrugarh police have arrested Akhil Gogoi on Wednesday a day after the RTI activist announced his preparedness to take up arms to safeguard the interest of the people. A team of Dibrugarh police rushed to Golaghat town in the evening and arrested the leader from his own residence. According to police, they registered a case against Gogoi tried to fuel anti national activities urging them to remain prepared to take up arms as he was addressing a huge rally near the town.
