Assamese music has made a mark on the global stage! The Assamese song "Roon Jhoon Jhoon" has won the Best Music Video award at the 5th International Star Film Festival, held on March 9 at Swami Vivekananda Hall in Kolkata. The festival, which celebrated the centenary of legendary music director Salil Chowdhury, featured participation from 65 countries and presented 290 awards across 47 categories.
The song, which features lyrics, melody, music arrangement, and direction by Dr. Aparna Buzarbarua, also earned her the prestigious Salil Chowdhury Award for Best Music Director. The soulful rendition by Dr. Sangita Kakati and the graceful dance performance by Meghranjani Medhi added to the song's charm. The music video, directed by Antareep Hazarika, has already won four awards, making it a standout creation.
Dr. Aparna Buzarbarua, who hails from Tezpur, began her career as a Botany teacher at Cotton College in 1969 and retired as the Head of the Department in 2003. A prolific composer, she has created over 100 songs and collaborated with numerous renowned lyricists from Assam. In 2008, she became the first recognized female music director of AIR Guwahati. She is also an accomplished author, having written several books.
Expressing her joy, Dr. Buzarbarua stated that this award is a significant encouragement for the music scene in Assam. The recognition of "Roon Jhoon Jhoon" at an international platform highlights the richness of Assamese music and its potential to captivate global audiences.
