Preparations are now over at Nehrubali in Nagaon as Nagaon is holding the North-East book fair from tomorrow January 19 with a seven-day programme.

The book fair organizing committee president and minister for Forest, Environment and Tourism, Rockybul Hussain disclosed in a press meeting held recently at Nagaon Tourist Lodge that Nagaon district administration would purchase books useful to children worth rupees ten lakhs, to be supplied to rural libraries and libraries of primary and high schools.

The book fair will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi at 9.30 am on January 19. The site of the book fair has been named after Lok Sevak Haladhar Bhuyan , and the main pendal is named after Upamita Sharma and Maitrayee Bhattacharya, two victims from Nagaon of Delhi bomb blast.

It is known from the organizing committee that more than 70 book distributors and publishers from places like New Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata etc. have confirmed their participation in the book fair.

The press meet was attended by Dr J Balaji, DC, Nitul Gogoi SP and many others of district administration.

Stranded persons return from Coimbatore

Tax collection resumes at Raha toll plaza

Raha: The hue and cry to stop the toll plaza in Raha on the National Highway No 37 has proved to be a futile exercise when NHAI has resumed tax collection from Monday.  That too before the end of the nationwide lock down to keep the killer COVID19 at bay. Raha administration plastic cleanliness drive

NAGAON: As part of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's  call during his Independence Day speech to clean up the environment from plastic, the local administration here along with Raha Municipality Board (RMB) on Saturday launched a drive at Raha Toll Plaza along the four-lane highway to clean up the plastic garbage from the area. National Nutrition Month observed

National Nutrition Month was observed at Raidingia under Khagarijan Child Development Project Office on Wednesday with a daylong programme. The programme held at 485 no. Notorious snatcher held , hand made pistol seized

Nagaon: The Nagaon police today apprehended a snatcher from Bhakatgaon bazar.    Identified as Bilal Uddin of Silongoni village , the apprehended person was involved in a snatching case under Sadar P S.    One hand made pistol was also recovered from the possession of the accused. Encephalitis toll mounts

Japanese Encephalitis claimed as many as 64 lives in different parts of the state till Tuesday. The number of affected people reached 265 on Tuesday. KMSS burns effigy of PM

Nagaon: Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) chief Akhil Gogoi on Tuesday announced a state-wide effigy burning protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the announcement of not declaring Assam flood as a ‘national issue’. As part of this state-wide protest , the district unit of Nagaon KMSS today burnt the effigy of PM Narendra Modi at Krishnaikhat on four-lane highway raising slogans against the BJP led government in centre and state. Truck driver arrested for reporting fake hijack

Nagaon: A Guwahati based truck driver and his wife have been arrested for reporting a fake truck hijacking case at the Raha police station , police said here on Sunday. Abhi - Neel murder case: Court declares two witness hostile

Nagaon: The Chief Judicial Magistrate court Nagaon declared two witness namely Numal Basumatari and Ujjal Mesh of Abhi Neel case as hostile. Both of the witness changed their earlier statement given in the court and before police' But court accepted their earlier statement and not allowed to change.
