An encounter between poacher and forest guard took place today afternoon in Abhoyapur Reserve Forest under Charaideo police station in Sivasagar district. According to the information one forest guard named Hironya Baruah injured in the encounter and he was rushed to the Sivasagar Civil hospital for treatment.

Normal life was affected in Sivasagar district bandh on Monday with the Assam Tea Tribes Students Association (ATTSA) calling an 12-hour Sivasagar Bandh from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. to protest killing of an innocent youth in Tingalibam Tea Estate by the army.The army has ordered a court of inquiry into the matter. 30 Beded Sivasagar town Health Centre inagurated

Mr. Pranab Gogoi, Minister of Handloom, Textiles and Sericulture and Law, Govt. of Assam inagurated the 30 beded Sivasagar town health centre on Sunday. The centre is also known as Sivasagar Civil Hospital (Wood Dispensry) earlier and this hospital is shifted to Joysagar a few years back. But today this is inagurated for the greater interest of the people of Sivasagar town as town health centre. The inaguration ceremony is attended by Deputy Commissioner, officials of health department and a large number of people of Sivasagar town.

IED recovered in Longpotia, Sivasagar

Acting on a tip-off, SDPO of Sonari along with Army and CRPF personal recovered an IED of weight 1 kg above from Longpotia near Sonari in Sivasagar district around 7.30 pm today. The IED was placed under a railway bridge in Longpotia; no one has been arrested so far in this connection.

Baator Naat competition from today in Sivasagar

For the first time in Assam, Baator Naat (Drama on Road) Competition is begin from today in Sivasagar.The competition is for 4 (four)days, for the first 2(two)days the 4 (four) teams played in different parts of Sivasagar town and tne next 2 (two)days 5 (five) teams played in Lakhimpur. Zikir artist presented Bokul Bon Award

Zikir artist and social activist Karimuddin Ahmed of Sivasagar received the Bokul Bon Award today by the Bokul Bon Nyakh and Jorhat Sahitya Sabha. The Satradhikar of Auniatiya Satra Dr.Shree Shree Pitambor Dev Goswami, honoured Karimuddin Ahmed with the award to him at a function held in Chandrakanta Handique Bhawan, Jorhat the Zikir artist received a certificate and Rs 10,000. 3rd Desang festival from February

The 3rd Desang festival starts from February 6 for 3(three) days with many colorful events. The festival is organised by the people of Desangmukh along with the district administration. The festival is held on the beautiful white riverine beach of the river Desang. During the festival various contests like boat race, kite flying, bike rally,traditional games etc. are held at the beach.An exhibition by local Self Help Group is organised where the artists demostrate various traditional products.
