More than a thousand villagers assembled at the place at 11 am next day on September 29 to stage demonstration in front of D.N.Hazarika, Circle Officer, Harisinga Revenue Circle; Bankim Sarma, DFO, Dhansiri Division ;Dr.K.Chamua, VAS,Tangla and OC Paneri police station demanding immediate release of the arrested persons and govt. relief to the victims. They alleged that paddy field of around 30 to 40 bighas had been damaged the previous night by a herd of 50 strong wild elephants. Police and SSB jawans had to be deployed at the site to control the irate mob. It was really too sad to watch milk oozing out from the udder of the dead mother elephant, sufficient to indicate that the killed mother had a very young calf.
