In a memorandum to the General Manager, N.F.Railway, Maligaon, the citizens and the passengers of Nagaon demanded for all round development including infrastructure development of the Nagaon Railway Station. In the 11 points long memorandum, the citizens demanded immediate arrangement for a shuttle train from Silghat to Chaparmukh, considering the heavy load of passengers. The shuttle train should be named as KALIABAR PASSENGER The 2067 UP Janasatabdi Express train should be linked with 808 Silghat to Guwahati down train at Chaparmuk junction. The passengers also demanded two additional trains from Silghat to Guwahati and Guwahati to Silghat with the names, SREEMANTA SANKAR DEV passenger and Kaziranga passenger respectively..


Moreover the Chaparmukh to Silghat railway line should be extended up to Tezpur Rangapara (North) from which the passengers of both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh will be benefited. The one more line should be extended from Jakhalabandha to Sibsagar town via Numoligarh,Dergaon and Jorhat town for which the passengers of Upper Assam will be benefited as mentioned in their demand. Priority should be given to make the Nagaon railway station in the category of Model Railway Station with immediate renovation of the platform as per B.G.norms. It is to mention that the present platform of the station is not constructed properly for which ladies or handicapped passengers face difficulties to get in the train.


Beside all, the citizens also demanded for immediate steps to against the illegal constructions of business centers and small huts on the railway properties. People belonging to different categories have been occupying about 90% of landed property of N.F.Railway. It is always noticed that some anti-social activities are going on in such temporary huts, as a result, it has been spoiling the entire environment of the surrounding areas. The UTS and PRS system should be introduced in the Nagaon Railway Station and the Puranigudam, Samaguri, Salana, Jakhalabadha ,Bebjia, Phulaguri and Raha stations should be improved into three lines with proper signal system, as demanded.

Traditional buffalo fight in Nagaon

It was a carnival like atmosphere at Jalah Village of Nagaon district in Assam as a boisterous crowd cheered at enraged buffaloes locking horns. The owners of buffaloes cajoled their tame animals to fight and win for them a prize. The village of Jalah, buzzed with activity on Sunday morning with the locals organising the annual buffalo fight. Police seize pirated CDs in Nagaon

A team of police raided the Panorama market in Borbazar area of Nagaon town on December 22 and seized more than ten thousands pirated audio and video discs from various shops of the market. No one was arrested so far in this connection. The piracy has greatly hampers the producers and film makers. The step taken by the police has greatly appreciated by the local citizens of Nagaon.

NYK Coordinator arrested in Nagaon

The district youth coordinator of Tezpur NYK Mehbub Alam Laskar who is also in the additional charge Nehru Yuva Kendra Nagaon was arrested by the police on December 21 night from the complex of Youth Hostel Nagaon. The FIR was lodged at Itachali police outpost in Nagaon town by the women participants of Assam team of National Integration Camp held on December 15-19 at the Youth Hostel campus. A case has been registered against Laskar for his misbehavior and using foul language to the both male and female participants of Assam team.

Rs 2.5 Lakh looted in Nagaon

An amount of Rupees Two Lakhs was looted at Borbazar area of Nagaon town today, at around 2.10 pm. The incident happened when this amount was in a bag , carried by Surendra Nath Bora, an engineer of Rupahihat Development Block under Nagaon DRDA. Bora told the media that he put the bag on his car while receiving a call on his mobile. In that fraction of time, someone took away the bag. Bora also told that he brought that amount for the payment from the LGB Bank Borbozar branch. The police has launched search operation to nab the culprit involved with the crime but no one has been arrested so far till filling up the report.

Assamese film 'Aideo' released in DVD

Award winning Assamese film 'Aideo' directed by noted film maker Arup Manna, which got many appreciations after screening at both National and International film festivals was released on Thursday at Nagaon Press Club, Nagaon. The film is now available in DVD which was released by noted actor Gyanada Bora in the presence of distinguished guests. While talking to media, Manna thanked the media for helping in publicity of the film. He also told that he felt very happy when the film was screened twice in Germany. The film has been made on the life of Aideo Handique, the first Assamese female actress.
