Cultural Function of Assam by Assam Association of Mumbai

The Assam Association, Mumbai organizes a cultural
function of traditional Assamese music and dance to be
performed by reputed artists specially invited from Assam
on Sunday 23rd September 2007 at Assam Bhawan,
Vashi, from 4 pm to 7 pm. Those cultural items were
created by Sri Sri Sankardeva, the greatest cultural and
social reformer of NE India.
On this occasion, the association takes the pleasure to
invite you and your associates/journalists to make this

It was very nice to get the news about the celebration of greatest saint of Asom Srimanta Sankardev, who was the founder of basic culture and peace in Assam, which is still followed to maintain our strong history.

As many as sixteen people have been injured while a powerful bomb exploded in Tinsukia town at around 1 pm on Saturday. According to information, the blast took place at the busy GNB Road in front of a grocery. The injured people have been rushed to the hospital. High level police and civil officials have arrived in the spot to start operation. Meanwhile, one more crude bomb have been recovered just before a while. Details are awaited.
More than four people have been injured while bomb exploded in the city's busy Fancy Bazar area just before a while. A NABARD sponsored micro enterprise development programme is under way at Solmora village under Dhekorgorah block, Jorhat. The 10-day programme has been supported by agriculture-based NGO Pathar. As many as 30 members of established self-help groups are availing of the benefits under the programme. NABARD District Development Manager Mayur Bora said that the programme was aimed at promoting micro enterprises among SHGs in a bid to augmenting their income on a sustainable basis. The SHGs members will be trained on enterprise management, business awareness, rural market dynamics achievement motivation and accounting procedures. Hundreds of Tiwa Yuva Chatra Parishad and Tiwa Women Welfare Association activists have staged protest at Last Gate on Friday demanding the Sixth Schedule status for the Tiwas along with some others demands. Talking to reporters, the protesters said the demand has not been respondent yet although it was raised in 1967. The Assam Government constituted the Tiwa Autonomous Council but did not include it in the Sixth Schedule. Miffed at this, the two Tiwa bodies have intensified their protest at Dispur Last Gate on Friday. Other demands include the implementation of the Tiwa Language Accord, early election of the Tiwa Council.
A good number of Community Information Centre employees have staged dharna at Dispur Last Gate on Friday to press the demand for regularizing their jobs and also opposing the proposal to amalgamate the CICs with Amtron's.Talking to reporters, the leaders of the association said as many as 438-operators working in 239 Community Information Centres are heading for an uncertain future. They alleged that despite repeated request, IT minister Himanta Biswa Sharma has yet to take take any steps to regularize their jobs. There is still protest at Dispur Last Gate by the various organizations demanding steps to end the issues besetting these people for years. Some protesters who were falling ill were rushed to the the Guwahati medical College Hospital. The protesters represent the organisations like All Assam Non Provincialised LP Schools Teachers Association, OBB Teachers Association of Mangaldoio Sub Division, All Assam Deori Students Union. But the Government has yet to depute somebody to visit them.

A Central Bureau of Investigation team has started its probe the killing of FCI's North east regional executive director P C Ram in Changsari. According to information, the officials of the investigation team are in talks with the Kamalpur police to receive the inputs. Led by CBI inspector S B Chauhan, the team has sent letters to five people seeking help to probe the case. The will soon give the sleuths the CDs they recovered from the encounter site where Dr Ram was killed in the ULFA custody. Dr Ram was kidnapped by ULFA April 27 from the city with his driver.
