Cultural Function of Assam by Assam Association of Mumbai

The Assam Association, Mumbai organizes a cultural
function of traditional Assamese music and dance to be
performed by reputed artists specially invited from Assam
on Sunday 23rd September 2007 at Assam Bhawan,
Vashi, from 4 pm to 7 pm. Those cultural items were
created by Sri Sri Sankardeva, the greatest cultural and
social reformer of NE India.
On this occasion, the association takes the pleasure to
invite you and your associates/journalists to make this

It was very nice to get the news about the celebration of greatest saint of Asom Srimanta Sankardev, who was the founder of basic culture and peace in Assam, which is still followed to maintain our strong history.

NE militants involved in rhino poaching in Kaziranga:Regupathy

Over the years, there has been a sharp rise in the rhino poachings in the Kaziranga National Park were the north east militants are actively involved.Disclosing this in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, minister of state for environment S Regupathy in a written reply said as many as 18 rhinos were killed in the sanctuary in 2007.The figure was seven in 2005 and it fell to five in 2006. But it started increasing on 2007 and rose to 18. The Union minister further said the north eastern militants are also in the rhino poaching in the park.

40 injured in Jorhat bus accident

Forty people have been injured while a Dergaon-Jorhat bus fell into a deep gorge before it reached the destination. According to information, the incident that left ten people seriously injured took place at around 10-45 in the morning near the Jorhat Coca Cola factory when the driver lost the control after developing a technical snag. Later local people came out and rescued the passengers. The injured people have been rushed to the hospital. Some of them have been released after primary treatment. The driver is remaining untraced. Investigation on going on.

AASU alleges voting rights for migrants' childrens

Following the complicacy aroused in conducting the inter media cricket tournament, organized by Guwahati Press Club (GPC) every year, the organizer has finally decided to scan the official appointment letter of each and every players taking part in the tournament.There are allegations that many participating teams, representing media houses, engage non-journalists (and non-newspaper employees) as their players in the tournament. Hardcore ULFA surrenders in Dibrugarh

A surrendered ULFA cadre has made a startling revelation on Tuesday that ULFA utilizes its newly recruited fellows in the strikes against Hindi speaking people along with army and police. After surrendering before Dibrugarh district administration officials ULFA cadre Partha Kachari said the new cadres are forced to run ULFA's attack. He also said the banned insurgent outfit has been imparting arms training for as many as 50 member. Govt behind BLT-NDFB clash

A failure government on the law and order front in Assam has been behind the BLT-NDFB clashes in the Bodo dominated areas in the state. This is alleged by Assam BJP unit spokesman Charan Deka. Addressing a pres conference in the city on Monday Mr Deka alleged that the Government has been failing to control the deteriorating the state’s law and order scenario. Deka cited some figures to justify his claim saying 2152 murder cases with 2024 rape cases in the state from April 2005 to November 2007. Deka also maintained that the Government is going to to impose new entry tax on some essential commodities.

Veterinary workers detained

Police detained several workers of the state animal husbandry and veterinary department at the dharna site on Monday while they were holding protest in front of the directorate office demanding government steps to regularize their jobs. They alleged that despite repeated appeal the governmenthas been failing to address their issues. Their salary amounts are inadequate and that too is irregular. They further alleged the Government has been lacking a specific policy to end their issues. When the authority tired to disperse them, they refused to leave the spot forcing the police to arrest and detain them at the dhanra site. Imphal Firing, 95: lifer for 4 CRPF jawans

A Kamrup district session court on Monday sentenced life imprisonment for four CRPF jawans chargesheeted by CBI in the Imphal firing case where nine people were killed in 1995. Also they are fined Rs 5000 each.The incident took place at the Regional Institute of Medical Science campus in Imphal, the capital town of Manipur. It took place after a shoot out on a few CRPF jawans while they were manning the Hospital campus. They responded the attack by retaliatory firing which turned indiscriminate.
