The Assam Lekhika Santha, a forum of women writers from the state organized a two day North East women writer’s meet on September 30 and October 1 in Shilpa Gram Panjabari Guwahati. The aim of the meet is to promote integrity among the north-eastern states and to provide a common platform to the women writers from the region.
The eminent writers who were to grace the occasion are Mamang Dai and Nanni Dai from Arunachal Pradesh, Dr Limattula and Dr Temsula Ao from Nagaland, Dr Shanti Kshetri from Sikkim, Dr Shilaramani Changkham from Manipur, Karabi Deb Barman from Tripura, P Kolongungi from Mizoram, Patricia Mukhim and Al Varin Dokher from Meghalaya and other noted writers from the state including Dr Anima Guha, Barnali Sarma Barua, Renu Devi among others. However, a few writers Temsula Ao, Patricia Mukhim were unable to attend the meet citing ill health.
On day one of the meet the forum felicitated Dr Jayashree Bora among others and many book release ceremonies were organized including a collection of poetry by Namita Das by Ratiprabha Gogoi, a children ‘s book written by Ranu Saikia Pator and a collection of Hindi poems of Premlata Khandelwal, a souvenir was also released on the occasion.
Eminent personalities Gobinda Sarma and Deepti Phukan Patgiri addressed the meet and termed it a fruitful venture which may also lead to future relationship among the states.
The second session saw eminent personality Dr Lakshahira Das inaugurating the Poetry Recitation Session and she also released a special edition Ardha Akash a tabloid of the Lekhika Santha. A cultural function was also organized on the occasion.
