2 suspected militants from the anti-talks faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland were shot dead while other 3 escaped, in an encounter by security forces at East Garo Hills, Meghalaya in the wee hours of Saturday. The encounter took place at Gori Singram village under Mendipathar Police Station of Meghalaya bordering Goalpara district of Assam. According to sources a search operation has been launched by the Mendipathar Police and 9th Sikhli Regiment of Indian Army to caught the militants. The 2 slain militants are yet to be identified. Security forces recovered an AK47 rifle, one magazine with eleven live cartridges, 2 Chinese grenades, IED, 2 wireless set besides 2 mobile phones during the combing operation in the forest areas.
Update on June 19: The 2 NDFB militants, who were killed yesterday by security forces in East Garo Hills of Meghalaya have been identified. Among the killed militants one of them is believed to be Dijen Dhigwara Narzary, the General Secretary of the anti-talks faction of the NDFB. And the other deceased identified as his bodyguard Bwidha Gayari. It is to be mentioned here that the duo were killed in an encounter by security forces yesterday during a pre-dawn operation that was meant to flush out Garo National Liberation Army militants from the village Gore Simram close to Bangsi Apal village, between Mendipather and Dainadubi towns in East Garo Hills. Later security forces recovered one AK47 assault rifle with two live magazines of ammo, One 9 mm magazine, 2 Chinese grenades, two mobile handsets, two wireless sets, a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED), large quantity of assorted ammunition and NDFB documents from the area.
