CIL-NTPC deal for Bongaigaon power plant

Coal India will sign fuel supply agreement with NTPC for 750 MW power plant in Assam. Disclosing this in parliament on Monday, Minister of State for Coal Pratik Prakashbapu Patil said that the government has asked Cola India to strike deal with NTPC to set up 3x 250 MW power project at Bongaigaon. He said that the coal ministry has already issued instructions to Coal India Ltd to sign fuel supply agreement for supply of coal. The minister also said that one unit of the power project of NTPC of a capacity of 250 MW was likely to be commissioned next fiscal, which the other two units in 2014-15 and 2015-16.
According to NTPC, its Rs 5,000 crore project is located in Salakati district of Assam. The coal linkage to the project will be provided by both Eastern Coalfields, a CIL subsidiary, and North Eastern Coalfields Ltd. The government has recently asked Coal India to sign long-term fuel supply agreements with power producers.

Citizen forum for ULFA-Govt talk

A statelevel convention in Guwahati on Saturday asked both ULFA and the government to come forward for unconditional talk to help the state restore permanent peace. Journalists mourns at the demise of Kapil Das

The city based journalists, media employees, civil society groups and political party activists have expressed grief at the sudden demise of photo journalist Kapil Das. A member of Guwahati Press Club and All Assam Photo Journalists Association, Kapil Das died of illness at a Chennai hospital four days back. His mortal remains were brought to Guwahati today. Assam photo journalist dies

Kapil Das, a Guwahati based photo journalist of The Assam Tribune group of publications died today at Chennai. Kapil was suffering from various diseases for few months. He was lately taken to the Tamilnadu capital for treatment. Kapil left behind his wife, one son and a daughter. His mortal remains will be brought to Guwahati tomorrow (Wednesday) for cremation.

Rs 7,645 cr for Assam

The planning commission has allocated Rs 7,645 cr for Assam for the current fiscal. The amount was fixed at a meeting between Chief minister Tarun Gogoi and plan panel deputy chairman Dr Montek Singh Ahluwalia in New Delhi on Monday. Later talking to media, the chief minister thanked Dr Ahluwalia for the amount which is more than Rs 1000cr from the last year's figure.

Rain brings flood in Guwahati

Cotton teacher killed in Guwahati

The mysterious death of a teacher of Cotton College sent shockwaves across the state on Sunday. Talking to Assamtimes, neighbours said they came to see the body of zoology professor Dr Bibhba Devi inside her residence where the door was remaining opened.
