The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) observed an 8 hour hunger strike from 8 am to 4 pm on the 8th august at the Lakhidhar Bora Khetra in Guwahati ABSU condemns the unwanted group clashes presently taken place in the district of Dhubri , Kokrajhar and Chirang in Assam . ABSU appeals for peace to all sections of people and to stop the group clashes which will create hatred amongst the people and destroy our humanity. The hunger strike is observed on the present ongoing situation of group clashes in the district of Kokrajhar, Dhubri and Chirang which led to death of innocent live, damage of property and insecurity of the people in the region. The hunger strike was attended by Pramod Boro and Jiron Basumatary , President and General Secretary apart from other office bearers and members.
Through this hunger strike ABSU demands the following from the concerned authorities
1. The Government should immediately supply sufficient food material and the food for the babies, medicine, clothes and textbook (to the students) to the inmates of the relief camps. The ABSU demand to provide adequate security for rehabilitation of the inmates of the camp at their respective places. The rehabilitation of the relief camp inmates should be done steadily but not hurriedly so that effected people can build up confidence on the security of their lives and property.
2. ABSU demands proper scrutiny of the relief inmates before rehabilitation in the district of Kokrajhar and Chirang so that no illegal immigrants can be settled and create another problem in the region.
3. ABSU demands protection of tribal belts and block and land belonging to genuine Indian indigenous people. Government must resolve the illegal immigrant issue with time bound policy for permanent peace and integrity in the region by updating NRC based on 1971 electoral roll.
Later the demand was sent to chief minister of Assam and also to union home secretary signed by the President and General Secretary of the organization. Members from other students union like All Assam Students Union, All Assam Gorkha Student Union and others had also joined the programe and spoke on the occasion.
GUWAHATI: The Old Boys Association of Sainik School Goalpara (OBA SSG) has taken up the beautification of six mile fly over by managing the traffic island garden at the fly over. Two traffic island garden were inaugurated by Mr Pradyut Chaudhury who praised OBA SSG for taking the initiative.
