Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

No poll nomination yet in Nagaland

KOHIMA:No poll candidates in Nagaland has so far filed nomination papers even two days after the Election Commission issues notification for the February 27 assembly polls. The state election office on Thursday confirmed that no candidate has turned up to file nomination paper and the returning officers stationed at the district and sub divisional headquarters have been remaining prepared to receive the papers till February 27.   Ten major parties have already agreed at a joint declaration not to field any candidate. NEW DELHI: Union minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju has appealed to the political parties and civil society organizations in Nagaland to withdraw the poll boycott call. ULFA(I), PLA rebels killed in gunfight

MARGHERITA: Security forces claimed to have eliminated two dreaded rebels from Assam and Manipur at a fierce gunfight in Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday. According to information, the gun battle took place at Shankupani area near Kharsang in Changlang district where 13th Assam Rifles jawans were engaged in the counter insurgency operation in the north eastern state. MARGHERITA: The Chatra Mukti Sangram Samity demands immediate arrest of MLA Bhaskar Sarma alleging his involvement in the illegal coal trade. Many workers of the KMSS student wing burnt Sarma's effigy in the town on Thursday in protest against his statement on KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi. Kokrajhar youth died in Hyderabad

KOKRAJHAR: Yet another youth from Kokrajhar died died in Hyderabad after he departed home in search of job in the capital city of Andhra Pradesh. Identified as Manik Ali, son of Jagir Ali, a resident of Dhurmari was found dead on Wednesday night. According to information, Manik who was engaged in construction works died after the portion of a building where he was deployed collapsed. His family members whom he called up at 10 in the morning received the shocking news at 8 in the evening. His family members, however, have not believed it an accidental death. His body is expected to reach the parents in a day or two.

ULFA(I) shoot out in Charaideo

SIVASAGAR: Security forces are fanning along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border in Charaideo to combat the suspected ULFA(I) rebels who triggered a reign of terror on Wednesday night with gunfiring at a tea garden. Army, police and para military forces have cordoned off a huge area in and around the Kanu tea estate hours after the rebels blank fired for several minutes terrorizing the local residents who were forced to confine to their houses.
