Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

Two NRC drafts to accomodate citizens

GUWAHATI: Stages are set in Assam to publish the first updated NRC draft on December 31, 2017. Union home secretary Rajib Gauba on Friday had a close door meeting with NRC and top administrative officers in Dispur. Addressing a press conference in the capital city in the afternoon, Gauba said the first draft would be published on December 31, 2017. The genuine citizens whose names are missing have no reason to be worried. They would get a chance in the second draft, said Gauba. "We have yet to verify several lakhs of documents to be checked and verified properly," he said. Naga rebels arrested in Sonari

SIVASAGAR: A section of Naga rebels has been moving in Sonari without any hindrance waiting for the much-hyped greater Nagalim just before the Christmas. Security forces apprehended three armed Naga rebels during a combing operation in Sonari on Thursday. Acting on a tip off, army, police and para military forces raided the Seven Star Hotel in the town where the trio were lodging. A team of senior police officers has been interrogating them. Police claimed to have seized a pistol and some incriminating documents from their possession. HC orders probe in to Akhil's arrest under NSA

GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court is unhappy with the way the Dibrugarh police arrested Akhil Gogoi under the National Security Act three months back.Granting bail to the KMSS leader on Thursday, the bench of Justice Achintya Malla Bujarbaruah said the entire process has some serious lapses which needs to be probed. Justice Bujarbaruah asked chief secretary to institute a probe into the lapses. He said the advisery panel was too late to approve the arrest of Akhil Gogoi under NSA.He further strongly criticized the authority for it's delay in informing it to the Centre.
