Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

Tea garden owners sent to jail

GOLAGHAT: A local court in Golaghat sent Subir Roy and Damir Roy to jail on Thursday a day after they shot at six of their tea garden workers for demanding wages. Police arrested the owner duo of the tea garden near Numligarh hours after the incident triggering anger among the workers who called district bandh on Thursday. They fired upon a group of workers when they demanded wages and bonus which they have not received. One worker received sustained injury while five others received mild injury who have been admitted in the Golaghat Civil Hospital.

GOLAGHAT: Normal life remained totally paralyzed on Thursday under the impact of a day long bandh call by a tea garden student organization demanding death sentence of two tea garden owners who shot at six workers for demanding wages. Death sentence for Assam youth in Tamil Nadu

NEW DELHI:A local court in Tamil Nadu on Thursday ordered capital punishment of a youth from Assam who allegedly taped and killed a law student last year. Identified as Aminul Islam, the youth was convicted by thr district session court in Ernaculam to be hanged to death for the double crime. Islam allegedly taped and then killed a law student last year sending shock and anger across the southern state of Tamil Nadu.

NDFB-S leader killed in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: The Kokrajhar police have eliminated yet another top NDFB-S rebel during a heavy gun battle in the BTAD district on Wednesday. According to SP Rajen Singh, the encounter took place at Dhumbazar area where the rebel was killed on the spot. Police further recovered an AK-56 rifle along with grenade and incriminating document from his possession who was identified as Sherton Narzary. GOLAGHAT: At least ten tea garden workers sustained injury when their owners sprang upon them by gun firing in Golaghat district on Wednesday.
