Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

Doubts over eviction intention

Huge storm lashes upper Assam

Properties worth lakhs of rupees have been ravaged when a huge storm unleashed a reign of terror in upper Assam district disrupting surface communication in many places on Saturday. Accompanied by heavy downpour, the hails storm hit Sivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat, Charaideo, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia in the afternoon which continued for around half an hour. Many houses collapsed and many trees, electric and telephone posts were uprooted to block the vital roads. No casulaty is reported. ULFA-I opposes Sanskrit decision

The United Liberation Front of Asom has strongly opposed the imposition of Sanskrit in the schools and demanded Assamese as compulsory subject in all schools. In a statement received on Saturday, the outfit’s central publicity secretary Aronodoi Asom thrashed education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for the decision saying that the imposition of Sanskrit would kill the existing spirit of the mother language.

Dental camp held at GPC

The city based Institute of Dental Science & Research Center organized a free dental screening camp at Guwahati Press Club (GPC) on 4 March 2017 under the series of ‘Evening with a Doctor’ programs for the benefit of its member-journalists. Representing the State’s first low cost dental care center, Dr Deep Sharma and Dr Nirmala K Roy checked the oral & dental health status of around 50 participants.
