Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

The carnage in Kokrajhar, flood, price rise and Hindu refugee issues left the BJP-led government embarrassed when the Assam Assembly resumed its budget session on Monday. Congress legislators along with their AUIDF counterparts demanded a statement from the Government. Later, AGP members also joined them. The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) has rolled out a slew of measures to help the flood-hit people by distributing some relief materials among them. In a press statement issued in Guwahati on Sunday, AJYCP president Biraj Kumar Talukdar said that AJYCP activists across the state have been distributing relief materials among the flood-hit people in many places. The Assam assembly is all set to resume its budget session on Monday where the Balajan bloodbath is set to put Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in a fix. Congress and AUIDF members on the floor are fully prepared to bring an adjournment motion to discuss the bloodbath in Balajan where 14 people were killed and several others sustained injury. But BJP, AGP and BPF members are unlikely to allow it to happen. The allegations of inadequate flood relief materials are also set to be raised in the assembly. Notably, the assembly was adjourned for a couple of days in view of the flood scene where 38 people died and 20 lakh affected in 24 districts.
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has condemned the firing and bombing on the common people by militants in Kokokrajhar on Friday.Sonowal, who was on a stock taking visit to Kokrajhar on Sunday said that the trouble mongers would be spared. Accompanied by DGP Mukesh Sahai, the chief minister also interacted with the family members of the deceased who broke down in tears as Sonowal rose to console them. A delegation team of Congress party led by Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora, CLP leader Debabrata Saikia visited Kokrajhar and took stock about firing incident at Balajan Tinali bazar in Kokrajhar. Bora alleged that state government totally failed while providing safe and security to the common life and properties.Saikia demanded stern initiative against incident and termed it was unfortunate incident for the state.
