Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has asked all MLAs in the flood-hit areas to apprise him of the situation as soon as possible. A devastating flood wave in Assam has forced the Assam assembly to suspend the budget session till August 8. The Business advisory committee of the House took the unanimous decision in view of the flood situation where 13 people died and nearly 20 lakh people have been affected. The MLAs, mostly, have left for their own home constituency to visit the flood-hit areas. They would also review the relief and rescue operation in the affected areas.
The United Liberation Front of Asom (I) has warned of an outbreak of religious tension in Assam in near future. In a statement issued to media on Wednesday, the chief of the proscribed outfit Abhijit Asom said that the Muslim people in Assam should try to have a look at the holy scripture from a scientific point of view to keep the diabolic jihadi tentacles at bay. He further deplored that Kashmir has turned into a valley of death where the sons of the soil have been killed. According to the government sources, the current flood wave have affected more than 13 lakh people in 19 district where most of the people have been rendered homeless. Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has tabled a Rs 2880.91 crore deficit budget for 2016-17 in the assembly on Tuesday. In his budget speech, Sarma said that the BJP-led government would keep the promises.  
With an aim to resolve the periodical problems, faced by the lady member-journalists, a sanitary napkin-vending machine will be installed at Guwahati Press Club. A surging water level of the Brahmaputra will submerge the city of Guwahati by the next couple of hours if the steep rising trend in the water level is any indication. The mighty river has been flowing dangerously on Monday following the incessant rains in the catchment areas in Arunachal Pradesh.
