Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

The Assam State Human Rights Commission has asked the government to probe the recent police firing in Raha where a local protester was killed. A division bench of the panel comprising Dr Justice AH Saikia and Tarun Phookan issued notice to the Chief Secretary to get the probe done by an officer of the rank of secretary and to submit the findings within the next 30 days.A local protestor Mintu Deori was killed and several others sustained serious injury when police opened fire on a group of protestors at Raha who tried to enforce a bandh on July 16 demanding the proposed AIIMS in the area.

Landslide is back in Guwahati to wreak havoc in the premier north eastern city on Wednesday. The incident took place in Kharghuli area where a women lost her life in the morning. According to information, a huge rock along with mud buried the women alive when she was washing dishes in her yard in Mandakini Path. SDRF personnel later recovered her body.

The ongoing Assam Assembly session is all set to start from 9-30 from Wednesday instead of 9 in the morning. The proposal was unanimously passed on the floor after parliamentary affairs minister Chandra Mohan Patowary moved the proposal. Speaker Ranjeet Kumar Das announced the slight change in the timings which will come into force from Wednesday. The concluding time is 2 in the afternoon. But on Friday, the morning session will end at 11.30 in the morning while the evening session will be from 3 to 5 in the afternoon.
