Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

40 missing in boat mishap

At least 40 persons have been missing when the machine boat carrying them met with a mishap in the river Kolohi in the outskirt of Guwahati on Monday.The incident took place when the overcrowded boat carrying more than 300 people capsized in the middle of the river after it hit at wooden bridge at around one in the afternoon.Many people managed to swim out while more than 40 others are missing forcing the authority to launch a search operation by SDRF. Details are awaited.     

Militants killed in Dhubri encounter

Security forces killed two suspected militants at an encounter in Dhubri district on Monday. The encounter took place at Chalibhui in the morning where the ultras died on the spot. Army and police jointly launched an operation in the area in the wee hours where the militants were killed at 3:50 in the morning. An AK-56 rifle, one 9mm pistol, two hand grenades, 40 rounds of AK ammunition were seized from the spot.

All about a non existent park

Scams after scams seem to have crippled the Karbi Anglong Hills Autonomous Council. This time the epicenter is forest department where an astronomical Rs 90 lakh fund is shown to have utilized in the name of a park in the hills district which really does not exist.Shown to have been set up at Hamren, fund was released in four phases in 2012. Rs 826 cr fund to woo voters

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is gearing up for the assembly polls early next year. His government is preparing to dole out a huge Rs. 862 crore fund to distributed among the flood-hit people likely from November-end.Addressing a press conference in Dispur on Saturday, Gogoi said the huge amount would percolate benefit for 76.41 lakh people.“With this amount will help people repair the damaged houses apart from distributing yarn for weavers, seeds to farmers, blankets to poor people and pensions to senior citizens.

Uneasy situation in Dhubri

An uneasy situation prevails in Dhubri and Cachar districts after an irate mob clashed with police near  temple forcing the administration to clamp curfew on Saturday.  The epicenter is Agomoni area in Dhubri district a day after a group clash near a temple in Kaldoba area.The situation vitiated in the morning when as a guge group of hit the streets in protest against the clash on Friday.
