Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Thursday called PB Acharya an RSS agent two days after the Assam Governor allegedly talked politics with a group of BJP leaders at the Raj Bhawan.Talking to reporters in the sidelines of a function in Guwahati, Gogoi said “the people are aware of it... he is behaving more like a Sangh (RSS) activist than a constitutional head of a state. We are going to send video footage of the speeches of the Governor to the President, Prime Minister and to the home minister and urge them to decide on his fate." The Opposition Asom Gana Parishad has urged President Pranab Mukherjee to take action against PB Acharya alleging that the governor has turned the Raj Bhawan into a political hub.In a memorandum sent to the President, the regional party has asked his intervention into the controversial role of the governor. Talking to reporters in Guwahati on Thursday, AGP president Atul Bora said,” Acharya has made the Raj Bhavan into a BJP and RSS office and a training centre for the BJP and RSS, which is dangerous for democracy." Bora sharply criticised the governor hours after chief minister Tarun Gogoi raised the similar accusation against the governor.

The Asom Gana Parishad has asked for President Pranab Mukherjee’s intervention on the Centre’s move to impose non Muslim Bangladeshi and Pakistani nationals in Assam. Led by AGP leader and former chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, a delegation called on the President in New Delhi on Wednesday evening where they alleged that Assam will have to bear the brunt of the recent move. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Mahanta said that the state will not remain silent if the Centre imposes anything. He said the Centre should ensure state rights over the natural resources.    
There seems to be no dearth for the Assam Congressmen to hit the streets against the NDA government at the Centre. The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee will be on a state-wide stir on September 27 alleging failure to rein in the price of essential commodities. With the one hour long stir, Congress will snub the Centre for failing to implement the Food Security Act, 2013.APCC leaders told Assam Times that the UPA government at the Centre had adopted the Food Security Act to ensure supply of rice, atta and other essential items to the poor people at fair prices. But the NDA government at the Centre has not allowed the Assam government to implement this legislation.
Assam and Tripura communist parties will hit the street in protest against the deplorable road condition in both the north eastern states.The agitational programme will be launched at Luairpua in Karimganj on September 27 alleging that both Delhi has been doing precious little to uplift the roads. They will highlight the pathetic plight of the Assam-Tripura NH from Malidahar (Meghalaya) to Churaibari.
The Director General of Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) Omkar Rai has assured Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki of centre at Itanagar at an earlier date.  Rai called on Tuki in New Delhi on Wednesday where they finalised the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the STPI and state government in the first week of October. The STPI Centre at Itanagar would pave the way for employment and entrepreneurship avenues in the IT Sector and is likely to considerably enhance the IT – ITES Sector in the State. STPI is an autonomous society under the Department of Electronics and Information Technology.
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki met Union road transport minister Nitin Gadkari at New Delhi on Wednesday seeking funds for maintenance of the damages of roads in the north eastern state during this monsoon. The Chief Minister said that the estimates for damages will be submitted to the ministry of road transport & highways  for further consideration. Gadkari assured him of fund for maintenance of the roads and bridges. They also discussed several other issues related to the roads sector in the State.
Surface communication remains heavily disrupted atop the Nilachal Hill when a huge rock collapsed on the road leading to the historic Kamakhya temple on Wednesday.It took several hours for PWD and forest officials to clear the road after the rock along with uprooted trees blocked a portion of the hillside road in the morning. There is no report of casualty. Local residents fear the repeat of more landslide in view of the non stopped rains during the last 48 hours.
