Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

HSLC exam from May 11, HS from May 12

Guwahati : The Board of Secondary Education,  Assam has announced the date of HSLC examination from May 11. The delay is attributed to COVID19 endemic and assembly polls.  The results, however,  will be announced on July 7. On the other hand, the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council is also preparing to hold the HS examination in arts,  science and commerce streams from May 12 and the results would be announced on July 30. These board examinations normally are conducted in February and March. This was what education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma twitted on Saturday.

Assamese NRI dies in Guwahati

Guwahati: Noted social worker, organizer and London-based Assamese NRI Rini Kakati died in Guwahati leaving a spell of gloom in the state.  She was 70 to be survived by her son who happens to be a doctor based in London. Kakati, who was involved in a number of socio cultural initiatives in London, died a sudden death at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital in Guwahati on December 27.  Kakati regularly contributed news items to Assam Times for  more than a decade.

Cash-for-jobs scam: Dr. Ajanta Hazarika surrenders

A cash-for-jobs scam accused Dr. Ajanta Hazarika has , on Monday surrendered before a Dibrugarh court. As per reports Dr. Hazarika, who is the HoD of the Plastic Surgery department of the Dibrugarh based Assam Medical College and Hospital had, allegedly, collected money from some youths promising them jobs in the Indian Railways. After her illegal activities came into light she had absonded for a couple of days. The Dibrugarh police had filed a case under various sections of the IPC in connection with the matter. Amit Shah downplays agitations!

Guwahati: Union home minister Amit Shah virtually threatened to firmly deal with the orgy of agitations in the state.  In his address at a crowded function  in the outskirt of Guwahati city on Saturday without specifying any agitation,  he said that the agitation will only create more martyrs and nothing else.   He said that Congress has patronized a number of regional parties to divide the BJP votes in 2021 assembly polls. New book 'Sara Phule Kotha Kole' released

Journalist Geetika Saikia's novel “Sara Phule Kotha Kole' was today released in a function organised at the Cotton Alumni building. Eminent novelist Phanindra Kr. Devchoudhury released the book. Writer Leena Sarma, former chief secretary of Assam Kumar Sanjoy Krishna, professor Meenakshi Buragohain, among others also graced the occasion. Guwahati: The state Congress has expelled senior leader and Golaghat MLA Ajanta Neog on Friday amid the speculations of her preparedness to join BJP. Christmas festivity grips Assam

Guwahati: Midnight carols and special prayers in the churches and the public prayers marked Christmas across the state on Friday. Following the COVID19 protocols,  people of all walks from the Christians thronged the churches for special prayers on the occasion.
