Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

Case against KMSS move

Phensidyle seized in Guwahati

Railway police and narcotic department sleuths have seized around 112 bottles of phensidyle from Paltanbazar on Friday.These consignment was put in three boxes to be sent to Agartala by train. Guwahati bound bomb exlpodes

Guwahati got rid of yet another explosion. Two hardcore ULFA linkmen are believed to have killed in an explosion that took place inside a vehicle carrying them in Karbi Anglong on Friday.The incident took place at Seventh Mile area in Umrangsu when the linkmen duo were believed to have been carrying explosives to Guwahati. The duo were killed on the spot when the bomb went off suddenly.The vehicle remained mangled. The face of the bodies were left beyond recognition. Top ranked reached the spot. Security forces are fanning in and around the area to trace the point where the explosives were carried.     

Car blast kills 2

Two persons were killed when a car carrying them exploded in Karbi Anglong district on Friday.The car explosion took place at Seventh Mile area near Umrangsu when the duo were believed to have been carrying the explosives which went off suddenly.The vehicle remained mangled and the duo inside the car died on the spot. Top ranked reached the spot. Security forces are fanning in and around the area to trace the point where the explosives were carried.

Grenade found in Dhekiajuli

Amid stepped up security measures ahead of the Republic Day, a major tragedy averted in Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district when security forces defused a powerful grenade on Friday.The handgrenade was found lying inside a bag just behind the Dhekiajuli ASTC bus stand in the morning. On seeing the suspicious object, the bag was handed over to the police who later confirmed it a hand grenade. Later it was defused.

AGP-BJP pact again!

The Asom Gana Parishad is in a mood to forge a pre poll alliance with BJP for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Led by its president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, an AGP delegation is camping in New Delhi to explore the possibility of forging the alliance. Mahanta has already held three rounds of talks with three senior BJP leaders including Rajnath Singh in the capital during the last three days.

Bordoloi for AIUDF-Cong pact

Amid stepped up activities for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, Congress MLA from Guwhati Robin Bordoloi has urged the party high command to reach a poll pact with AIUDF.The former minister called on Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday and said that the alliance would help the party woo the minority voters.Gandhi is believed to have listened Bordoloi carefully. But did not divulge anything. This is his second meeting with Gandhi during the last two months. Sources told Assam Times that the state Congress leaders are divided over the alliance with AIUDF. Youth crushed to death

In yet another sensational murder that rocked Guwahati, a trucker killed a youth before being picked up by police on Thursday.The incident took place on Thursday night when a trucker had an altercation with a youth on Jorabat. Then the trucker forcibly picked up the youth and left towards Basistha. Then he was crushed to death near the Basistha temple. But the police managed to arrest the trucker. Police investigation is going on.

Armed youth held in Guwahati

Despite tight security, Guwahati has become the safe transit point for a section of arms smuggler.Railway police arrested a youth and seized two pistols from his possession from Guwahati Railway Station n Thursday night.Identified as Chandan Kumar from Bihar, the youth was on his way to Dimapur to sell the weapons. Police investigation is going on to extract more revelations.
