JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

No breather in SC for Subodh Biswas

NEW DELHI:There seems to be no respite for Subodh Biswas and his henchmen who clashed with student leaders in Silapithar six months back. The Supreme Court on Friday turned down his bail plea and agreed to hear the plea in February next year. Biswas, the leader of an organization advocating for thd Hindu immigrants earlier moved the bail plea in the Gauhati High Court. But it was rejected and he challenged ir before the apex court.

Conspiracy to kill Himanta!

GUWAHATI: In a strange revelation two persons arrested a couple of days back in the outskirt of Guwahati confessed to have been trying to eliminate Himanta Biswa Sarma for ₹5 crore. The revelation surfaced on Friday only when police produced the duo before s local court which remanded them to judicial custody. The duo believed to have been planning to kill the powerful minister exploding a powerful bomb for which the would have received ₹5 crore.     HOJAI: The Hojai Town Unyaan Samiittee has called Hojai Bandh on Friday for showing their protest against the construction of fly over bridge from J.K Kedia road via railway station to New Market.  "We are not against the development of Hojai town, we need a fly over bridge immediately, but it should be constructed from West side of railway crossing which was declared during Congress reign.",said Samiittee Members.

Jugdal accused police officers sent to jail

GUWAHATI: A local court in Guwahati on Thursday remanded two police officers to judicial custody a day after CID arrested the duo in connection with the sensational Jugdal case where local resident Harakanta Doloi along with five of his family members were hacked to death under mysterious circumstances in 2009. The CID which has been probing the case arrested the then Sonapur police station officer in charge Pranab Jyoti Deka and investigation officer Motlib Chaudhury charging the duo with trying to destroy evidence at the instance of the culprits.

HC to resume hearing on Akhil Gogoi's plea on Monday

GUWAHATI:The Guwahati High Court on Monday will decide on the fate of Akhil Gogoi who is languishing in Dibrugarh Central Jail since he was arrested under the National Security Act. 150 people evicted from Goroimari
