JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

Manipur polls on Mar 4&8

Manipur is all set to go to the Assembly polls in two phases on March 4 and March 8 while the counting would take place on March 11 simultaneously with UP, Punjab Goa and Uttarakhand. Announcing the poll schedule in New Delhi on Wednesday, Chief Election Commissioner said the north eastern state will hold the first phase of polls for 60 seats from 7 in the morning to conclude at 4 in the afternoon on March 4. Moderate tremor jolts NE

A moderate magnitude tremor struck no less panic in Assam and its neighbouring north eastern state on Tuesday afternoon. Measuring 5.6 in Richter scale, the tremor was felt at 2-40 in the afternoon when the panic stricken people in the high rise building came down to the open field. The earthquake was originated along the Indo-Bangladesh border 8 Km beneath the surface where the high rise buildings and towers started rattling for several seconds. Vehicles in the city of Guwahati halted as the denizens started thronging the roads seeking safety of their lives. But there is so far no report of any casualty.     

Website launched for Ganga Sagar Mela pilgrims

he members of West Bengal Radio Club (Amateur Club) have launched a website to help the pilgrims, primarily the missing persons in the forthcoming Ganga Sagar Mela starting on 9 January next. The weeklong festival attracts thousands of devotees from different parts of the country and many of them fall victim of the situation. The radio club has also installed its HAM Radio setup at Kanchuberia, Namkhana, Chamaguri etc to help the families of missing persons with correct information. Concerned Bengal administration and police forces have agreed to help the radio club to support in its endeavor.

AJYCP thrashes RSS

RSS seems to have invited more and more wrath for its highly questionable presence at the Kareng Ghar premises. The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) has raised doubts over the intention of the organization where activists recently thronged the historic premises raising Bharat Mata Ki Joi slogan.
