JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

Rhino meets watery grave in Kaziranga

A full grown rhino met watery grave in Kaziranga leaving the animal lovers in utter shock on Monday. Forest guards in the Agaratoli range of the national park have recovered the floating carcass in the morning. More rains might compound the flood fury in the next couple of weeks in Assam. The famed Kaziranga National Park, Pobitora wildlife Sanctuary have been reeling under waters fetching brimful misery for the one horn rhinos and other birth and animal. Rhinos, tigers, deer, buffalos, elephants have been shifting to the nearby hills in the Kaziranga National Park forcing the authorities to set up the activities to deal with the poachers. New platform for NE scribes formed

Luitpar Club initiative for book reading

Luitpar Club in Narengi Campus of Oil India Limited recently organized a unique initiative for encouraging reading habit among the residents, primarily the young people in the colony. AHRC orders probe into Raha firing

The Assam State Human Rights Commission has asked the government to probe the recent police firing in Raha where a local protester was killed. A division bench of the panel comprising Dr Justice AH Saikia and Tarun Phookan issued notice to the Chief Secretary to get the probe done by an officer of the rank of secretary and to submit the findings within the next 30 days.A local protestor Mintu Deori was killed and several others sustained serious injury when police opened fire on a group of protestors at Raha who tried to enforce a bandh on July 16 demanding the proposed AIIMS in the area.
