Actor joins TMC

Noted film actor Biju Phukan joined Trinamool Congress in presence of Mamata Banerjee at a function in Guwahati on Wednesday.

Phukan, who once contested the assembly polls from AGP told the TMC boss that he was prepared to fight the polls.

People thronged in thousands at the sarusajai Stadium to attend the TMC rally where Mamata Banerjee drew appreciation.

Ms. Banerjee clarified, while addressing a party rally in Guwahati, that Trinamool Congress was a part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government when it was headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee but her party would not support any party that incites communal violence and hatred on the basis of religion, caste, creed or community.

Three persons died and fifteen others sustained serious injury at tragic road mishap in Sivasagar district on Wednesday.The mishap took place at Phulpanichiga near Jhani on the National Highway No 37 early in the mornig when a vehicle carrying a wedding party slipped into the roadside field after it hit a tree when the driver lost his control over it.Local residents who came to the rescue in the wee hours blamed dense fogs for poor visibility. The injured are battling for life in the Sivasagar Civil Hospital. A few others has been shifted to the Assam Medical College Hospital in Dibrugarh.      
At least 12 Congress legislators have been camping in New Delhi to revive the dissidence against Tarun Gogoi as chief minister. They met AICC leader Ahmed Patel on Tuesday and demanded implementation of the Mallikarjun Kharge report at an earlier date. They are further trying to met AICC general secretary Dr CP Joshi to air their grievances. Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, who led to the capital himself was absent from the delegation.

In yet another bizarre incident, a man killed his one year old girl when he had a quarrel with his wife in Karbi Anglong district sending shockwaves across the state on Tuesday.The incident took place at Topichang in the morning when Krishna Kalandi killed his one-year-old daughter Belmoti with a matchet after an altercation with his wife at his house. Later police nabbed Kalandi.    
Congress legislator Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has urged CBI probing the Saradha chit fund scam to give him 2 or 3 days time to appear before the SIT in Kolkata saying that he was in New Delhi for an urgent party work.Through his legal adviser, Sarma informed he would be able to appear before the SIT by Wednesday.
