AICC is likely to announce the names of the candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in Assam slated for April 7, 12 and 24.
According to reliable sources, Union ministers Pawan Singh Ghatowar and Ranee Narah will contest from Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur respectively.
The AICC election committee is believed to have approved Gaurav Gogoi as the party’s candidate in Kaliabor while Biren Singh Engti will contest from Diphu.
The party is likely to field Sushmita Dev from Silchar and Bhupen Bora from Tezpur. Despite resistance from a circle of dissident leaders, Bijoy Krishna Handique will be able to seek reelection from Jorhat while Parimal Suklavaidya will contest from Karimganj. In Dhuri, the party has actively considered forest minister Rockybul Hussian while either Kirip Chaliha or Pranjit Chaudhury will contest from Mongoldoi Lok Sabha constituency. The party has cleared the name of Ismile Hussain in Barpeta constituency for the upcoming polls.
The ruling party will not field any candidate on Kokrajhar in view of the pre poll tie up with Bodoland Peoples’ Party (BPF).
