Boiragi receives Akademi award

Umakanta Boiragi made Assam proud again. The traditional tokari maestro received the Sangeet Natak Akademi award from President Pranab Mukherjee at a function in New Delhi on Friday.

 

Mukherjee conferred the prestigious award to Bairagi along with seven other artists who were honoured with the Akademi’s Awards for their work in traditional, folk and tribal dance, music, theatre and puppetry.

The aware comprises a purse of Rs 1 lakh, an angavastram and a tamrapatra.
