Police have been interrogating two persons from Hojai suspecting their role in the sensational robbery in Guwahati on Tuesday where gold ornaments worth Rs 21 crore have been looted at gunpoint from MP Jwellary. Armed robbers in the heart of Guwahati city whisked away diamond, gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 21 crore at gun point on Tuesday evening. According to the eyewitnesses, a gang of robbers armed with sophisticated weapons' started blankfiring as soon as they arrived in the MP Jwellery premises in the GS Road at 7 in the evening. As the robbers outside the shop started blank firing to terrorize the people, three others forcibly went inside and took away all diamond, gold and silver ornaments within five minutes. Policemen arrived in the spot but by then the robbers vanished. A case has been registered and investigation is in progress.
Four persons died when a truck full of logs carrying them slipped into a ditch in Kamrup district bordering Meghalaya on Tuesday. The shocking accident took place at Hahim in Boko where the logs fell on the four persons as soon as the truck met with the mishap. All of them died on the spot. According to the local residents, the truck which was full of smuggled logs fell into the drain after the driver lost control over it. Local residents and police rushed to the spot and  took Sn hour to extricate the bodies. Police have registered a case to investigate it.

Amid an escalating cut off year controversy the Assam Congress has written to the Centre in support of 1971 as the cut off year to detect and deport the Bangladeshi immigrants from the state. In a memorandum sent to Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday, APCC president Ripun Bora and Opposition leader Debobrata Saikia said the party would not demand 1951 as the cut off year. Bora and Saikia said,”the Section 6A of the Indian Citizenship Act, 1955 prescribed March 25, 1971 as the cut off year for detection and deportation of the foreigners in the state of Assam.” They said the Assam Accord with March 25, 1971 as the cut off year has been accepted by all sections of the society...
It was in 2005 when Sarbanabda Sonowal drew huge applause across Assam for getting IMD(T) Act scrapped by the Supreme Court.
