Assamese travel fiction released

It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.

The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

we know or have read many travel related books but "Ontario'r heuj dolisat" is not only a travel experience but is a travel fiction..A great experience as you keep on reading this book and gain new knowledge & issues..we expect many new books from him and wish him success..

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi welcomed the Naga peace accord signed on Monday. In a statement he hoped that it would help the state restore peace and normalcy. But in the same breath he finds it surprising on the secrecy in the Prime Minister’s Office. He said,"the agreement has been reached after prolonged struggle by the Naga group and it will help in restoring peace and prosperity in Nagaland, but it is astonishing why the clauses of the agreement are kept in the dark," Gogoi said in a statement here.

Guwahati police have recovered 22 bullets from a deserted drain in Beltola area on Tuesday hardly a few days before the Independence Day.Local residents told Assam Times in Swahid Path area that they informed the police after they came to spot the materials at a drain. Police rushed to the spot and recovered the 22 bullets of 9 mm pistol. These were seized three days after police claimed to have recovered three such bullets from a youth in Ulubari area.
Assam Congress in rank and file joined the nationwide protest on Tuesday against the suspension of five MPs from Lok Sabha alleging attempt to disrupt the House proceedings.Hundreds of party leaders and workers thronged the Rajiv Bhawan and shouted slogans against Lok Sabha Speaker for suspending the MPs including Gaurav Gogoi and Sushmita Deb on Monday.Talking to Assam Times the protestors called it a blatant attempt of the ruling party to keep the democracy at bay. 
A Pawan Hans helicopter carrying a senior bureaucrat has gone missing in the sky of Arunachal Pradesh.The chopper which left Khunsa carrying Tirap Deputy Commissioner for Longding had last contact with the Mohanbari Airport in Dibrugarh at 11-30 in the morning. Since then the crew remains incommunicado. Details are awaited.   
Recovery of three bodies at a public place creates no less sensation in Nagaon district on Monday.The epicenter is Kothiatoli area where local residents spotted three bodies early in the morning hours after a huge crowd left the spot holding a community bath marking a festival on every Sunday night.A section of local residents call it a case of excess drinks which was why the tragic incident took place. On complaint, policemen arrived in the spot and took the bodies for post mortem.      
Dispur police are bracing up for a major trouble if the post mortem report of Victoria Dayoun Kharkongr is any indication.The post mortem report suggests severe assault on the head of the Meghalaya girl saying that her head bore a serious injury mark.Dispur police claimed to have found her body hanging at the washroom inside the police station in the first week of June.Police detained her acting on a complaint from the International Hospital authorities and the incident took place hours after she was kept inside the lock up.KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi added no less fuel to the fire alleging that she was repeatedly raped inside the police station to be killed later. A full grown elephant was crushed to death when a passenger train rammed into two wild elephants in Sonitpur district on Monday.The tragic incident took place at Nagapathar in Rangapara area where Dekargaon-New Jalpaiguri passenger rammed into the herd of elephants when they were crossed the rail tracks in the wee hours.Local residents found the animal while the injured elephant is still believed to have been hiding in the nearby hillside.
