Chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday made it plain and simple that his government wants 2014 voter list as one of the supportive documents to update the national registrar of citizens.
Responding to the legislators who asked him to clear his position, Gogoi said that the list would be required if the documents earlier announced by the Supreme Court are not available for an indigenous citizen.
He said that his government has already moved the Supreme Court for consideration which has not so far rejected the affidavit.

Mr. Tarun Gogoi is going mad because the assembly election of Assam is approaching. He is such a person who knows only vote bank politics. He is a useless Chief Minister of Assam who has no interest to protect the indigenous communities of Assam rather he is ready to protect the illegal Bangladeshis who entered illegally to our land. A high level NIA team is on a stock-taking visit to the BTAD areas on Tuesday.Led by an additional director general, the team of top ranked officials is visiting the trouble torn area in BTAD to assess the ground situation.After collecting the initial inputs from the civil and army officials deployed in the BTAD areas, the NIA officials would leave back for New Delhi to formally register the cases.The team gathered some initial inputs after holding separate meeting with chief secretary JS Khosla and DGP Khagen Sarma.The ADG review the inputs after his tour in BTAD areas on Tuesday.NIA on Friday agreed to probe the cases of BTAD violence after the chief minister recommended the probe./

In a bizarre incident, local residents in an interior area in Dhubri district lynched a miscreant on its way to attack a political leader.The incident took place at Patakata in South Samara sub division on Monday morning where local residents caught three armed youths as they were trying to attack a local leader.One of the armed youths died on the spot while two others, who are in police custody, have been battling for life in the hospital.

Senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha said on Monday that the move for allowing arms to the villagers in the name of self defence would result in a disaster.Talking to reporters in New Delhi, the former Union finance minister said that infusion of arms among the villagers would create nothing but civil war.He further said that the government has been failing to firmly deal with the situation and that’s why, it is a move to surrender before the trouble mongers by allowing arms among the villagers.

Caught in a barrage of criticism, Chief minister on Monday ordered a judicial probe into the BTAD violence.Gogoi has asked Chief Secretary JS Khosla to proceed for setting up a commission of a judge to probe the allegations of lapses resulting in the violence where 36 people were killed in three days.According to Gogoi, NIA would indict the culprits while the judicial commission will study the allegations of inaction and lapses.
