Government revises minimum wages

The State Government after consultation with the Minimum Wages Advisory Committee has revised the minimum rates of wages payable to employees/ workers employed in the Schedule Employments, as stated in a press release.

The employees/ workers listed in the schedule are employment in Agriculture, Contractors Estt. of the Forest Dept. Co-Operative Marketing Societies, Co-Operative Bank (Other Than Co-Operative Central Bank & Apex), Construction or Maintenance of (1) Roads or Building Operation & (2) Stone Breaking and Stone Crushing, Dispensaries, employees in Electricity Board, fishing, casual/muster roll workers in Flood Control Department, Forestry & Timbering Operation, Hydro Electric Project, Handloom Weaving establishment, Horticulture Operation, casual/muster roll workers  in Irrigation Department, Khadi & Village Industry, Municipalities & Town Committees, Public Motor Transport including ASTC, Printing Press, casual/muster roll workers employed in Public health Department, Paultry & Dairy Farm, Steamerghat, Small Scale Industries, Seasonal Spray Squads of NMEP under Health & Family Welfare Department, Sericulture Operation.

The employees/ workers listed in the schedule are employment in agarbati, asbestos cement factories, aluminium industries, agar wood industries, beverages manufactories and vending establishment, beedi making, brick making and brick kiln, bought tea leaf factory, cotton textile mills, cement based industry, chakki mills, chemical & pharmaceutical industries, candle manufacturing, coffee & rubber plantations, engineering industry including motor garages, flour mills, food processing, gold and silver ornaments and other articles of artistic design manufacturing, pan masala and gutkha manufacturing industries, handicrafts, ice-cream and ice-candy manufacturing and vending establishment, ice factory & cold storage, jute bailing industries, jute mills. match manufacturing, metal rolling, re rolling industry (ferrous and non ferrous), motor body building, plywood industries, paper industries, pottery industries, photo & picture frame manufacturing, poultry & cattle feed manufacturing, rubber processing and rubber manufacturing, rice & oil mills, saw mills, soap making industries, sugar industries, trunk & bucket manufacturing, tiles manufacturing, tanneries & leather manufacturing.

Moreover, the above employees/ workers who are highly skilled will get a minimum rate of wage of Rs. 450 per day and Rs. 13,500 per month, skilled/clerical to get Rs. 350 per day and Rs. 10,500 per month, semi skilled/ unskilled supervisory to get Rs. 280 per day and Rs. 8,400 per month and unskilled employees/ workers to get Rs. 240 per day and Rs. 7,200 per month respectively. 

In addition to the revised rate of minimum wages the workers/ employees shall be entitled to Variable Dearness allowance (VDA) @ 100% over the rise and fall of Index point in All India Consumer Price for Industrial Workers (Base2001=100) calculated with reference to the wages of the workers VDA shall be calculated on the basis of change in CPI as on the date of effect of the revised rate of minimum wages and to be paid thereafter six monthly review basis.

A devastating accident at the Ennore Thermal Power construction site in Tamil Nadu claimed the lives of nine workers from Assam and nearby regions on Tuesday, after a steel arch collapsed. TANGEDCO Chairman Dr. J. A standoff between taxi unions from Assam and Meghalaya has disrupted travel for hundreds of tourists at the Jorabat border near Guwahati. Clashes broke out in Churachandpur district on Thursday evening, barely two days before the scheduled visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Manipur, throwing the administration into a state of heightened alert.
