A three-day National Executive meeting of the Federation of PTI Employees Union is scheduled to be held at Guwahati for the first time. Organised under the aegis of the PTI Employees’ Union, Guwahati, the meet is expected to be inaugurated by Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi on November 20. The Federation is the Union of employees—both journalists and non-journalists of the nation’s premier news agency Press Trust of India and has for nearly six decades struggled to assert the rightful place of the employees in the industry, said a statement of the organising committee.
The three-day meeting would deliberate on various issues and problems related to the media industry across the country as well as in northeast India and also chalk out a strategy to take forward and strengthen its movement for the welfare of media employees in both print and electronic, added the statement.
The Federation has struggled for decades since its inception to ensure that all employees are treated fairly and receive their rightful wages and perquisites as recommended by different Wageboard Committees set up by the Union Government over the years.
“The Federation is also a leading force in the country's media industry playing a pioneering role in realising the rights and privileges of its members in various news organisations and it is hoped that the meet would reaffirm Northeast's rightful place in the country's media industry,” said Durba Ghosh, president of PTI Employees’ Union, Guwahati.
