Daizy Basumatary crowned Miss Haina with winning in the Bodoland Fashion Hunt Miss Haina, 2016. This is the first ever in Bodoland as well Lower Assam region, has been organized by Nexus Entertainment at Bodofa Cultural complex on Sunday in Kokrajhar. She was awarded cash Rs. 25,000 along with crown and citation.

Sikha Dutta Brahma and Priyangka Basumatary were adjusted first runners up and second runners up and awarded cash Rs. 20,000 and Rs.15,000 respectively. Dansy Rani Basumatary and Nandita Basumatary were adjusted as Miss Photogenic and Miss Personality in the show.

Bolero van recovered

Police recovered a Bolero pickup van from Kokrajhar town near Anikha Hotel on Tuesday.The Bolero with registration number plate less was parking at the town and suspicion by the public latter informed the police which lead to recover the van.  The police said that they have been observing the van for owner but none having owner they picked up the van. It is suspected that the car lifter was brought it after theft and parked in the town, police said.  

BTC summer session

The one day summer session of Bodoland Territorial Council Legislative Assembly (BTCLA) held today passed the estimated expenditure for the period of six months beginning from April to September, 2014 amounting to Rs. 120919.50 lakhs from plan and non plan fund. The session was begun at 10 am,was chaired by Paniram Brahma, speaker of the BTCLA at Bodofa Nwgwr in Kokrajhar. The executive member (EM) for Social welfare department Sabharam Basumatary brought the motion of vote on account on the budget estimate for the six months from April to September of the current financial year 2014-15. Former Assam minister and  Kokrajhar east MLA Pramila Rani Brahma and the All Bodo Women Welfare Federation (ABWWF) delegation visited on Friday the spot of the killing of a young girl at Joypur village under Kokrajhar police station late last night and demanded early arrests of involved culprits with the incident. Urban development building

  BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary inaugurated the newly constructed building of the BTC council head of department(CHD) of Urban development department along JD Road  on Friday in Kokrajhar. The building was constructed at a costs of Rs.228.16 Lakhs under the plan funds of BTC in 2009-10 and 2010-201,of which Rs.111.85 Lakhs has been spent of fourth floor in its proposed complex.The building will also be accomodation for offices of  the the deputy Director,Town and Country Planning and  Chairman of Kokrajhar Development Authority. Body recovered

A body of a young girl identified as Nazmin Nara Begum alias Bulbuli (18), HS passed student in recent declared results was recovered from Joypur village on hanged under Kokrajhar police station this morning. Family members said she was sleeping at her room late last and was missing from chilly night around 1am and searched whole night,but not tracedout.Villagers of the Joypur saw the body this morning and informed the police.The body was bored of injury marks on her back and neck.Her body has been brought to Kokrajhar police station for postmortem,said a police officer. Police started its investigation into incident and it might be love affairs, police stated.    

World environment day observed

The World environment day was observed with planting of suppling and holding various programmes in Kokrajhar on Thursday. The 16 Bn SSB celebrated the day with planting of suppling at their headquarter complex based at Adabari  and neighbouring villages in the presence of  official and publics and distributed supplings among public. Body found

A bullet ridden body of  NDFB(Ranjan Daimary) cadre identified as Ripunjay Narzary(18) of Dhumbazar village was recovered from Alaijhar under Kachugaon police station in Kokrajhar district this morning. Police said the local informed the police about a body lying in the area. The body with hand tied in the back bore injury mark in the chest.   Police suspects the hand of its splinter group Songbijit faction behind the killing.  

Peace meeting

An all party peace meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner conference hall in Korajhar today to discuss on the prevailing law and order situation and other issues pertaining to the district.
