Udalguri district administration ready to polls

Udalguri district administration of Bodoland Territorial Council(BTC) is all set to conduct the scheduled first phase of Assam assembly election for three constituencies slated to be held on April 4.

A total of 26 candidates are in fray to contesting the assembly election in three LACs that all kinds of preparation and arrangements have so far completed to conduct the election.

Nine candidates are in fray to contest in 64-Panery LAC-Kamali Basumatary(BPF),Durga Das Boro(INC),Swarnalat Chaliha(SUCI),Nandaram Boro(UPP),Dinanath Das(Independent),Prabhat Das Panika(Independent),Dikan Chandra Deka (Independent) and Mahesh Chandra Sarma(Independent).

 In 69-Udalguri LAC,six candidates are in fray,included Jamansingh Brahma(INC),Rihan Daimary(BPF),Anjali Prabha Daimary((Independent),Dilip Kumar Boro(UPP),Bipul Narzary((Independent) nad Santash Madahi((Independent).

 Eleven candidates are in fray to contest in 70-Mazbat LAC-Charan Boro(BPF),Teharu Gour(AIUDF),Raphael Kujur(INC),Baldev Chouhan(LJP),Abul Quasim((Independent),Girish Chandra(Independent),Manaj Kumar Tamuli(Independent),Rabindra Basumatary(UPP),Lal Soren(Independent),Sunil Sarkar(Independent) and Swapna Dey(Independent).

A grand bike rally was organised by UPP party at Tangla area in support of UPP candidate for Panery LAC Nandaram Boro on the last day of campaigning,besides candidates of parties and Independent candidates also hold their last campaigns in the respective LACs on the last day of campaigning.

Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary told the media on Monday at Kokrajhar that their party BPF is fully prepared to contest in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.  Party is totally prepared to put candidate in the Kokrajhar seat. Fr Mangaldoi seat, they rare onsidering a good candidate. He said that in some seats, their party may extend support to alliance partner.  He also claimed that BPF has majority supports to win the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha seat. The current Lok Sabha MP, Naba Kumar Sarania (Hira) of the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha seat, Daimary said that Sarania become MP without surrendering  from banned outfit ULFA. 

Laptops distributed

Barama FC lifts BTC-Army trophy

Barama football Club (FC), Baksa lifted the 3rd BTC-Army football league trophy defeating the Kokrajhar Blues by 1-0 in the final match held at KDSA stadium ground in Kokrajhar on Sunday. For Barama FC, Pingkul Basumatary scored lone goal against Kokrajhar in 45 minutes of the first half which led the team to win the football league and lifted the championship trophy. Bathou Prayer organized for CRPF martyrs

A Bathou Prayer and candle lighting programme  was organized at Bathou Thansali in Kokrajhar on Saturday evening to offer prayer for CRPF jawans who lost their lives in militants attack at Pulwama, Jammu & Kashmir on February 14 last.  Hundreds of Bathou devotees and followers participated the prayer and offered their worship for the eternal peace of the martyrs. Cattle smugglers arrested in Kokrajhar

Kokrajhar police arrested five cattle smugglers along with a truck of cows from Karigaon national highway on Thursday morning in Kokrajhar district.   The cattles were illegally brought to South Salmara from Dinajpur Sonapur of West Bengal in a truck, bearing registration AS01GC-2244. An FIR has been lodged with police in this regard.  The arrested persons are identified as Ashadat Jaman (38) of Pundimari , WB, Anisu Jaman (42) of Mankachar South Salmara,Kurshed Alom Ranjipura, Uttar Dinajpur WB, Najimuddin Ahmed (23), Sipajhar Darrang, Tahed Alom, Punjipara Uttar Dinajpur WB. 

HS final examination starts

Nearly 7000 students are appearing in the HS final examination which beings from Tuesday in 25 centres across the Kokrajhar district. The examination is conducted under strict observation of CCTV and security deployment across the district. Students appeared in the final examination in a healthy discipline and peaceful as today is English subject on the first day of the final examination. Nearly 6103 students appeared in Arts stream, 759 in Science and 162 in Commerce stream respectively. Adivashis protest for ST status

Adivashi Sengal Abhijan and Jharkhand Desam Party, Assam state committee  carried out a rally and staged protest dharna in Kokrajhar on Monday, demanding  ST status to the Adivashi community and start of Ol-Chiki script in Santhali medium school in the state. The protest was held in front of the DC office, Kokrajhar.  Hundreds of activists and members from Sengal Abhijan with banner, placards participated the protest dharna that saw slogan shouting seeking ST status and use of Ol-Chiki script in Santhali medium school.
