Flood waters start taking a grim turn in Assam on Monday following heavy downpour during the last couple of days in the catchment areas in Arunachal Pradesh. The situation is set to take more grim turn if the rains that lash the entire state refuse to relent during the next couple of days.
The mighty Brahmaputra along with its subsidiaries have been flowing dangerously leaving around one lakh people marooned in Lakhimpur, Dhemaji and Sonitpur districts. The surging waters are learnt to have inundated at least 200 villages in the three districts damaging crops on a huge area measuring 1,500 hectares.
More and more revenue villages are said to have come under the surging waters where the major rivers have started flowing abode the danger level. The district administrations have stepped up relief and rescue in the flood hit areas with essential commodities.
